Help please guys

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by mondeoman, Nov 8, 2015.

  1. My Megane Coupe RS 265 purchased last week I've discovered the manuals and locking wheel nut key are missing, if anyone has the same key nut that I should have could you quote me the key code, the key nut will be mirrored of course compared to my wheel nut piccys.
If anyone can help I'll be eternally grateful. all replies acknowledged. Any pics of a matching key nut would be great. My email is josielowe@onetel.com
A few words of praise for Chris Smith in Mid Wales who has been a tower of help with manuals and advice.
    Cheers guys, Keith.

Err, Surely the dealer will sort you out with the key/manual?

  4. Thanks Ryan and Jamie, the entire car has been gone over with a fine tooth comb, both me and the dealers, (non Renault) they as yet can't come up with how to get a replacement key without knowing the key code which of course is with the missing manual !! also it seems that Renault no longer do a master key set:mad:
I'm back at the dealers tomorrow to see what their latest idea is.
I'm hoping someone on this forum will see my wheel nut pics and have the same key pattern and tell me the code, here's hoping.

I would be just getting the dealers to order a whole new set of lockers with a new key tbh

  6. Yes Jamie, they have received a new set of nuts and key which is a different code of course, Renault possible don't keep a record of which car has which key code, but the BIG problem is how to remove the key nuts that are on the wheels without knackering the nut and alloys. So if anyone on the forum has the same key nuts as my pics send me the code, PLEEEEEASE.
    Cheers, Keith.

Ah yeah, that's a good point actually.

Locking wheel nuts arnt that difficult to remove with the proper key. Hammer and socket and away you go

  8. The 1st or 2nd page of your service booklet has a sticker on it with the keycode information - it also has the code to allow a new alloy wheel key to be made - my one broke and I ordered a replacement from a dealer using the booklet......

  9. From what I remember all the Megane RS ones are the same. All the Clio RS ones are the same etc etc. When my Clio ones were missing Renault just gave me the set out of their demo car until the new set arrived.

Edit: mine is a pre facelift and I have a different pattern on my key.

  10. Surely there is a match the the cars VIN?

  11. Hi again chaps, Jamie, can't use hammer and socket, the key nuts have a rotating collar so the socket will just spin, Papps, the service booklet and manual are missing, Mike, good point, BUT, Chris smith on the forum has a Megane RS coupe as well and via an email piccy his is a totally different pattern than mine, Gaz, another good point, supposedly the dealer contacted Renault last week to be told by Renault that vehicle details won't produce in their records a key code, however I am very doubtful on that one, will try phoning Renault myself.
But if all you kind chappies out there could look at your key nut to see if it looks like my thumbnail pics on my 1st post, then I would have the code and BINGO.
    Thanks lads, Keith.

Is this a saga or what !!

  12. A crisp £5 note and a local garage will have it off in 5 minutes mate - I had one that I broke trying to get it off before the key arrived and thats how I got it off in the end.

  13. Both mine didn't come with lock bolts. Maybe the Australian spec cars didn't have them.

Anyway, here's how we remove McGard style lock bolts when the customer has lost the key:

Prep: Apply masking tape around bolt hole to minimise damage to wheel.

    1. Hammer on a 12pt standard length socket over the freespinning collar. Socket must go on straight and square so use a 15cm extension to help hold it straight as your hammer. Socket size will depend on the bolt because they vary between brands. Hammer til you hear and feel a metal bashing against metal feeling (the sound changes)
    2. With the extension still attached, hammer it up, down, left, right. Firm blows and repetition will eventually rip the collar off.
    3. Get your lug nut removal socket and hammer it on square and as deep as you can hammer it.
    4. Use the strongest impact gun you have, lean with your body weight against the back of the gun so you're pressing it against the bolt and with luck, it should come off.

Of course, there is no turning back with this method. Always try non destructive methods first, like what you have done here or ask the Renault dealer if you can borrow one (as in, bring photo of your bolt head and go raid the boot of their showroom cars *cough*)

  14. Good reply Juld', your ideas would have been a last resort since this is a nearly brand new car, full warranty etc, the dealer wasn't ready to risk damaging the wheels at this stage and neither was I, I also tried with my dealers back up request, to access Renault dealers forecourt cars to find a matching key, they all refused point blank ! however since the forum chaps didn't come up with a key code from viewing my original post piccys, I've done a HUGE amount of research into this problem and days later have discovered and SEEN the answer in action with ZERO damage to my wheels. YIPPEEEEEE......
All will be revealed tomorrow.
