1. Been flicking through the forum and you all seem like a nice bunch! I'm going to look at a yellow f1 230 megane on Saturday with 28k on the clock for £8k. Anything I should look out for as I'm new to renaultsport cars. I've had a clio 1.2 as my first car and I've currently got a citroen c2 by loeb. Also anyone got insurance for less than £1500 (I'm 21 with 2 years ncb)
    Thanks!
    Shaun

  2. It'll be due a cambelt change despite the low miles (nice find btw) as its 5/6 years (depending on age) or 72000. Whichever comes first and it isn't worth risking it. Common problems include dirty injectors which cause
misfiring and warning lights on the dash. I can't really imagine that the miles on yours will have worn put suspension parts or the clutch unless it's been driven hard all it's life, which is tempting for these cars as you'll no doubt discover.

  3. Seized hub bearings
check the brake discs etc are in good condition as these are expensive
    belts are done
    windows work
    air con works
funny noises when pulling away (dual mass flywheel)
shit tyres as they aren't cheap to replace
dirty injectors causing lumpy idle as said

    I think that's about it!

  4. Thanks mate, when do the belts need doing, I've read between 40 and 50k, should they have been done as this car has only done 28k? 8 grand seems like a good price and I'm waiting to get there and find something expensive wrong with it!

  5. I shall give the car a good look over as I'm looking to have it for the next 3-4 years as well! It's nice to talk to people who know what to look for!

  6. Belts should be done every five years regardless to mileage. So they should have been done.

Ideally the belts will have been done at a Renault dealer or a specialist as the average mechanic will not have the tools to time the engine.

  7. The cambelt hasn't been done on that one. I rung up about it, the bloke was so rude on the phone when I told him that. And he hung up on me!

  8. That is the trouble with these unfortunately. Finding a good one is hard. People realise how much it costs to maintain them and then sell them without the jobs being done.

He'll never sell it for that price without service history/belts being done!.

  9. The guy at gt performance?

  10. There's another one with 41k on the clock for 6400 with all of the belts done by renault, this seems like a safer bet? I'm a bit of a low mileage hunter but I'd rather have a car that had been looked after than one that was an expensive stab in the dark!

  11. 41k is still fairly low mileage for the age of these cars.

  12. I would just not buy the first one on account of the seller being rude. What an arsewipe.

  13. Cambelt is normal job, I would suspect most garages will have the tools to be honest as it's the same kit for the 1.6L/2.0L nothing special about it. 99% of the mechanics are normal to any other car just the front hubs different. But if the mechanic is any good then that's just oldskool anyways.

  14. That's the one

The guy was an absolute tool, came across as if he was doing me a favour being on the phone. Wasn't friendly In the slightest bit!

Really glad I never went for that one in the end.

  15. Told him I couldn't get insured and got my deposit back, going to look at one with 48k on in red with fsh and all belts done, much happier!

  16. Don't do it!!!! You'll regret it! I went to look at a Red one which was a very nice car but I couldn't live with the fact that if I ever saw a Yellow one I would regret it. It had to be Yellow! Red is very nice but for me it had to be Liquid Yellow! I had to wait for a while but I got a good one in the end and I don't regret the colour choice one bit.

  17. Another thumbs up for the yellow from me  haha. Red does look good though.

  18. Don't get yellow or red both look shite.

Would you pay an extra 4k just to get an r26 with 20k less mileage?? Don't pay more than 4.5k for an r26. You can pick up a good one for less than 4k if your good.

  19. It's £6300 and it's a neat car with a wicked full service history! The yellow one was £8k and needed a fair bit of work done, and after paying the £1600 insurance it would be pushing my budget! I like the red one! Colour isn't as much of a bother for me, if anything yellow is a bit in your face for me!

  20. I picked up a full service history r26 for 3900 a few months ago. the 6k+ ones will be hard to shift on. In my opinion the r26 looks aren't it's strong point so would only go for stealth ones in black.

  21. I phoned up about a black one today, less miles but he sold it last week and hadn't got round to taking the advert off!

  22. Black, silver, white.
Lost it in the car park colours, I never struggle to see mine.

  23. Mine is the one parked right in the corner where nobody can park next to it!

  24. I'm doing the same now, and this morning asda car park was empty before work. Parked out the way over two spaces aswel. Came back to this...

    Nice and empty
    harytyhy.jpg

My failed attempted at taking two spaces..
    eqa5ehus.jpg

    And still someone parks close

  25. Always the way!

  26. I worry that if I were to do that somebody would just damage it deliberately.
Luckily I shop at Aldi and the spaces are huge.

  27. Tbh I'm waiting for that to happy, but I'll just be parking out the way so it looks less cuntish on my behalf
