Helmet

Discussion in 'Track Days & Track Driving' started by Mike265cup, Nov 9, 2014.

  1. On the hunt for a new helmet and after some recommendations, I don't mind if it's open or closed face, I know closed face has its perks but I'm open to suggestions. What do you use and how do you find it? Pictures would be a good help. It's just for track days so doesn't need to be the rolls royce of helmets but needs to do it's job.

    Cheers Mike.

Not sure if this is the correct section for this or not.

  2. Stilo WRC 8860

    Very popular in rally.

  4. I've got an omp and an RRS both open face, the OMP is ok and I thought was quite comfortable until I bought the RRS , it's light and very comfortable both can be had from jjc race and rally

  5. Stilo are lovely but over the top for the odd track day, I think £200 is more than enough to pay

  6. Also try eBay the RRS at jjc is £198 plus vat, sure I got mine for around £120 brand new

  7. Have actually been eying up the RRS open and closed face and also the OMP gran prix 7s

  8. New RRS open face come in different colours now, not sure about the OMP 7s

  9. I've got a Bell one, can't remember the model, they're a mid range helmet was around £350 then extra for the peak instead of the visor.

Arai sell light strong helmets but you pay for it.

Stilo ST4 Wide for me. Really flexible with carbon peak + slim visor. Or take the peak off and you have a normal visor. They do a GRP version, I went all baller on the 8860 ZERO version, it's beautiful

One of those, I have the open face and can't fault it, Lots of friends that race/compete in sprints also use them and for the money you can't beat them

  12. Nice one Jamie I mind someone telling me about these but couldn't remember the make, are they nice and light?

  13. Torn between a few tbh ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415563186.244858.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415563204.694305.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415563214.189354.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415563224.670499.jpg ImageUploadedByTapatalk1415563242.167698.jpg 3dc92073a751b9c07fd7232d647c7f9b.jpg so much choice, the RRS closed face with rally peak is nice but seems a bit pricey at £280 just for track days.

Anyone got any experience with the race safety accessories one?

  14. Nice lid that, the open face RRS I have is £198 plus , different colours available as well now

  15. You got the White RRS jet then?

Which one do you mean is nice?

  16. Yes I've got the white RRS jet , one in the pic above looks good although I do prefer open face

  17. Can I ask why? I've got full face just now but not sure if I should change to open.

  18. I just find that my vision is obscured with full face And just feels to restrictive for inside a car, much prefer open for in a car, I use a full face for when I go out on an R1 bike though for obvious reasons

  19. That is actually a valid point, it can be a bit of a pain sometimes

  20. Can't you borrow one next time you do a track day before you buy one

  21. Most people I know use full face but I'll see what I can do. Cheers

Welcome to try mine Mike if I'm about and you haven't bought one yet

  23. Cheers mate

  24. Same dilemma for me....after much searching I found helmets made by Stealth for good price and have found my open face to be comfortable and well made for the money.

Distributors and web site here -

    Good luck!

  25. My advice is go to somewhere like DemonTweaks or GPR in silverstone and TRY THEM ON. Different heads fit different helmets. Also you will find an hour in one is much much more different than just 10 minutes. I use a Bell RS3 Pro with a hans mount and I have bought a GT5 Peak that allows me not to have a visor. The end result is: Buy the best you can afford. I have lost friends recently due to motorsport accidents and I would say your life comes first over saving a few quid.

    Any questions just ask.

  26. That would be the obvious decision if there was somewhere near me to try them on but the isn't, that's why I asked for some opinions because I'll need to order it without trying.
