Is there enough material on the cylinder head cover to properly install M6 Helicoils to repair 2 damaged threads, resulting in not that properly fixed coil packs any more. Isn't it as "thin-walled" that you would kill the cover when drilling and tapping the bigger thread for the Helicoil insert? Many thanks and cheers Marcel
Hi Marcel What i did with mine was cut some heads off of 4 bolts, say about 40-45mm long, double nut one, then apply some chemical metal to the hole where the bolts screw in and a bit to the thread, screw them onto the cover as far as they will go but don't over tighten them, unlock the nuts and do the same to the other three, leave overnight and refit the coils and use nuts to secure them. Screwing into aluminium is not the best idea going
Perfect Ian, many thanks for your detailed reply I've some heat resistant 2K Loctite "Aluminium Epoxy" in the garage and going to glue M6x40 grub screws in the more or less scraped threads. Yeah, this is quite a weak spot in F4R manufacturing, as the original screws were even the delta-shaped thread self forming screws. So, quick on first installation, but not as durable as it should be on a coil fixing thread, that might get opened more than once in engine life. To have these threads in a part which contains the paired cam journal bore dosn't make it any better Many thanks Marcel
