Headlights - what type of dipped beam?

Im currently running an old H7 hid kit with fat ballasts but i've noticed they are starting to get dull compared to other road users headlights, I did fit a new set earlier in the year but had loads of trouble with faulty ballasts so went back to the ones I knew worked.

So... any recommendations? Do I go with another hid kit or do I go back to a decent standard bulb? Names and links would be good too if possible.

  2. I've got bosch just fitted them today and they're not great. Osram nightbreakers seem to get mentioned a lot, might be worth a shot for £20?

I had Osram Nightbreakers in the Clio a few years back, they were good but I found standard lamps in the projectors to have very little light output, although they were standard lamps.

Normal bulbs can't compete with the output of HID kits, but it's finding a decent HID kit. I had some slim ballast ones in my old Meg, they were about £50. I wouldn't fit a cheap set, mind.

Look at the 35w kits as they're bright enough.

I know that's the problem I'm having. It's a mine field, the person I used to trust to buy them off gave me a load of duds before he admitted he'd been having issues, I had the bumper on and off not that month than I ever have. He then tried selling me a £120 set, no chance.

I believe Kensun are supposedly decent and are about £45 for a 35w set.

  6. Has anyone tried the h7 led bulbs. The problem I have with hid and stuff over stock is a decent beam pattern mind you mins a 225cup so no projector type light.

  7. I had the very same issue. I have had 2 sets on mine in 10months and one failed again a couple of days ago. I have binned the hid kit now as its 2 much hastle taking the bumper on and off. I went for some osrams but the guy told me they only last approx 6 months before they dull off so recommended some ring ultimas. I have since fitted them and to be honest I'm very impressed. I would say they are as good as the hid kit was. This maybe because it was a crap kit but none the less I think there very good.

I'm going to have to do some proper investigation I think to find a decent set.

  9. Normal bulbs in projectors are rubbish, I've got Osrak Nightbreakers but feel I'm constantly straining to see anything.

  10. Anyone tried LED's? Would they work in projectors?

The friend I mentioned that I used to buy hids off mentioned them but I'm not sure about being a guinea pig as they were brand new to him. I also didn't like the look of a small fan on the heat sink.

Just read a review on the OPT7 version of the above, and they are having massive moisture issues in the headlights, they reckon its the fan on the back dragging moisture in. I'll avoid those then.

Oddly the pics make the new look dimmer, they're not in reality, they're really bright. That's 5000k old one and 6000k new ones.

You can get h7s that are nigh on as good as HIDs mate. We used a guy in Swinton, had to push to 100w though as the 55w weren't strong enough (they were E-marked though...)

Put some Bosch Pure Light in earlier, not white but bright enough, used the Halfords trade card and got the pair for a tenner
