I've just bought a dashcam and it comes supplied with a cigarette lighter plug and an uber long lead, which is fine as a temporary measure. I've bought the hardwire kit and I'm just wondering where to take the power from. I'm thinking from the interior light somewhere as the camera I have doesn't have an internal battery, just a capacitor, so if it doesn't have power for a few days it all resets. I would go from the cigarette lighter but as that is only live when the ignition is on it wouldn't keep power supplied to the camera, hence thinking about the interior light. Has anyone done this for a camera or for anything else? Any suggestions welcome! Thank you
Looks a top way of doing it Matt. Other than that take a feed from under the 12v cigarette lighter and run it to behind the glovebox with a universal 12v cigarette lighter end. I don't think the feed to the interior light is always live as it will be triggered from the door switch. Id do as Matt has done though.
