Went to Huddersfield in my RS250 to pick up a new drum kit I bought, they said to park down a side street as no spaces outside the shop to pop my Vdrums in. Went to the side street and saw yellow parking posts on the right but two of them were down so moved over them. All of a sudden I here a crack and a thud and then glass smashing, thought I must have run over a bottle. Reversed back a bit and heard even more cracks and thuds. Got out and now there is a significant damage to the lover front bumper, and the DRL's on the offside are still working but the glass is smashed. And to finish it all off I scraped my nearside alloy in a nearby car park before this lot happened. Now what the hell do I do? Go through insurance? or just get it fixed myself? I have noticed that this post has been hit before, on google maps it shows that one of the bolts is not seated correctly and this was taken sometime ago. The yellow paint on the bottom of the post where is was bent has now all rusted so must have been hit a few times. God knows how much a new bumper will be, is it one whole unit or can I just get a bottom part? Any advice chaps on the best way to fix this?
i wouldn't bother going through the insurance route mate, just try and fix it yourself and take it to the relevant garage for work if you can't do it yourself. when i was first reading that, i thought that they may be those weight trigger posts that pop up on some bus routes to stop cars going down. bad description but you tube it, its hilarious
I'd take it a body shop first and see if its repairable and if you can afford it out of your own pocket. If not theres a couple of bumpers going on ebay at the moment: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-R...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item2a36125bda http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/GENUINE-R...arts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item20de4ada9a Dont forget you would need to swap over all of the trim so make sure thats in good condition otherwise thats additional costs ontop. If not just stick in an insurance claim and lube up at renewal time.
Depending on age/no claims, it might be cheaper to DIY it. Pop to a decent bodyshop and get a quote. And put some pics up
Depends on what your excess is mate. When my bumper got knackered I bought a New one on here and had it sprayed by Carl at Brian Leighton (about 40 min drive from Huddersfield) I did the body work all myself so saved a few bob and knew what repair I was getting. For me it broke even between buying all parts myself compared to going the insurance route. But obvs saved on increased premiums. I would check the cost of parts thro people on here and add it up to see if it's worth it but depends how much damage. Have you got any photos of it?
Firstly thanks for all your input peeps. After looking at the post from Sargara I now know it ain't the front bumper. If you look at the DRL's on the offside that one has been smashed but it still works. Below the DRL it is part of the offside wing, that is where the damage is. I have sent a pm to the trusty Ads to make me happy. The irony is I could have got free delivery but with shift working...... hindsight..... if I only knew!
