Gt performance

  1. Just a quick heads up! Anyone looking to buy an LY megane f1, don't go to GT performance! The guy pressured me into putting down a £200 holding deposit and when I phoned to say I was getting a different one (after being advised to steer clear of that car and garage) he has become pretty arsey and now won't give my £200 back! Just a word of warning!

  2. Trade standards, and he will be sorted.

  3. Already got the ball rolling, I'll get my money back!

  4. Just wanted to warn people!

    Ermmmm.... was the deposit non-refundable?

  6. Generally a deposit is non refundable .. That is the idea

  7. Sorry to hear this, it would be good if you can get it back but it's very unlikely... deposits are (as a general rule) non refundable. That way it becomes a binding agreement, so they can't honestly sell it to the next person, even if they offer more money.
Fingers crossed for you though.

  8. No he said it was a holding deposit so that he wouldn't sell the car to anyone else, not a deposit on the car. He said if I changed my mind I'd get it back. Anyway spoke to trading standards and the guy and I've got it back now

  9. Ah fait enough, if he said you would get it back then very different matter.
Glad you got the happy ending.

  10. But deposits are the seller insurance that you wont back off the purchase while he is refusing other offers. So if you change your mind he will be in some way compensated for the offers that he refused because you changed your mind. And in first place it is not nice off you to ask the money back after you changed your mind.

  11. I only put it on because the car was 80 miles away and I couldn't nip there after work!

  12. Besides the point IMO, you put a deposit down ona vehicle to stop them selling to anyone else and in return it's their insurance should you back out as technically they could have lost out on selling it to someone who genuinely wanted it. They can't be held liable for your circumstances of paying the deposit.

Out of interest what put you off the car after you'd put down a deposit?

  13. In fairness, I don't see how the garage is in the wrong here.

  14. I heard the guy was a right pain in the arse and other forum users has seen the car and said it needed a fair bit of work done to it. It was at the top end of my budget so I went for a different car that had been looked after!
