Once I speak with RStuning on Monday I will confirm details, the pump was originally specified for a Clio 200 running an r26 engine.

  2. Superbe.Thank you!
What pistone to wall clearence did you use with this pistones?

  3. My cams are far too aggressive for my setup and are designed to run with a gtx3071, so you might be better sticking with standard ones and spending the money elsewhere?...or wait until iv tweeked my setup and see if i get any extra gains?

What have you got planned next?

  5. Selling! Lol

Nothing major, but ill change my plugs, lambda sensor, maybe my fuel pump, etc and adjust a couple of parts and see if i get a increase in power.
not sure i want much more power, as the car will spin the wheels at the top end of 3rd gear, if the roads slightly damp!

This is why I am sticking with the TD04, I want usability. As you say the slightest bit of damp wastes the power currently!

  7. Im tempted to fit a gtx3071 and hope the torque and powerband would make it more driveable, but the extra £5k spend might ruin the car and make it completely unuseable as a daily. (done 40miles last month with the car)

Mine is still a daily'ish car. Spending 5k on a turbo set up would kill me ahaha!

  9. Well thats turbo setup, fuel system and mapping, but still a lot of money to make it undriveable unless its bone dry.
td04 hybrid is just too small! Lol

Today I started prepping the block for paint.

It's already had a hot bath which removed all the grime, oil etc. I continued by rubbing down with a wire brush and a liberal spray of brake cleaner:

    dedubu9a.jpg

A few of the oil / water galleries looked rough so I've cleaned the faces up with a needle file.

After that I masked up the block and applied my first coat of Hammerite smooth black metal paint (I forgot to get anymore photos at this point). I am going to leave this a day to set, then apply a second coat.

One thing I remembered is I need to order a set of dowels and coolant system core plugs which the machine shop removed. They are only £1~ each from Renault, so no great expense for once

    Soooooooooooo.... 21 months later......

Last year we bought a house, which put the Megane project on the back burner. I used the car for a few months over Summer, then retired to the garage over Winter.

Fast forward to 2015, I purchased the final engine parts and started formulating a plan to pull the original engine.

After chatting with a good friend of mine, Mick at Diamond Motors he kindly agreed to store the car, while it was being pulled apart.... In return for sexual favors (he's such a deviant).

A few weekends ago we pulled the engine (surprisingly easy after a little swearing and me annoying Mick  )

With the engine out I proceed to clean the engine bay, the subframe was removed to fit new ARB bushes, rebuilt lower arms and replace the odd fastener.

With the original engine removed I could send the bottom end assembly (pulley, crank, flywheel, clutch cover) for dynamic balancing.

The machine shop I use where mega busy, so the job overran by 2 weeks... but all the parts came back perfectly balanced:

    22148199902_7f09db1370_k.jpg

Now the fun part... building the engine *short gasp of breath*

The engine block was thoroughly inspected and cleaned, as it has been stored for 16 months since painting / being machined.

All looks good... We processed to fit new core plugs and oil squirters:

Next we dropped the crank in, to check main cap clearances:

    21973017208_05d8120798_k.jpg

All clearances where bang on Renault spec (great success!):

All the caps / bearings where lubed up and torqued to spec:

    22134665126_e6888c8550_k.jpg

Pistons and rods where built up next, plenty of lube and the gudgeon pins installed (the locking rings are an absolute CUNT to install )

I didn't take photos of the next few steps... But anyway... Pistons where installed, rod cap bearing clearances checked, lubed up and torqued to spec.

New oil pump, sprocket kit and splash tray fitted:

Sump re-fitted with a new gasket, BOTTOM END BUILT AND READY TO GO!!!!

I am hoping to spend more time with Mick this weekend and get the fancy head fitted

I might go down again on Saturday, pop over if you're free

  17. Looking good mate, what's the spec you're going for?

  18. Gray

    Gray RSM Moderator

    83.00 supertech pistons

    I beam conrods

All new bearings, seals, oil pump

    dynamically balanced bottom end

    billet flywheel, with r26.r clutch

    ported head and manifolds

    supertech valves

    custom spec cams

    TD04HL 20T turbo.

    Forge actuator

    Forge re-circ valve

    Forge intercooler / boost pipes

  19. Custom spec cams? Sounds interesting, enlighten me!

i been wanting to go down the hybrid td04 route too but might go for something better/bigger instead.

mapping is my only problem as i'm in the Netherlands

I'll let you know if it works.. Somebody in the know has informed me  If it does work, the cost will be minimal.

The TD04HL 20T will make 370hp on the Megane, with supporting modifications.

Good work mate, hope it'll be running soon

  22. been thinking about using 172 cams myself, would seem some fiddling with timing though

  23. Gray

    Gray RSM Moderator

You would also need to cut down the inlet cam as it's slightly longer and block the Dephaser oil way.

But you're on the right track

  24. I know mate!

exactly what i was planning, have some documention which would surprise you!

they are pretty aggressive for the td04 though!

    fc7ee2265fa8a06746502f8583e640eb.jpg

I then dropped in the tappets, rocker arms and cams:

    45da0d1a3c3bdf3fec9f09c9ddf6d40e.jpg

I was going to fit 172 cams (a bit of gamble to gain more power).... Although they physically fit, it wouldn't be on a standard timing.

I couldn't turn them over to OEM timing marks, so I whimped out and fitted standard Megane cams.

Finally the cam cover was fitted and torqued up:

    9ef1d6f32555034ccd25779edaf30b5f.jpg

Crank and cams locked in place, timing belt and idlers fitted.

We filled the engine with 2L of oil and turned over by hand to get the oil ways lubed up.

That's it until next week

  27. I don't get it, they should work fine?

    you got my email?

  28. Gray

    Gray RSM Moderator

Yeah I got your e-mail.. interesting to see the cam data  I forgot to reply though, had a busy weekend with the car and visiting friends.

I am starting to think I put the exhaust cam in 180 degrees out, which made it lock up when timing them.

I also noticed the 172 inlet camshaft is a few mm longer, this would need machining down and the VVT oil way blocking.

With removing the VVT I am not sure what position the inlet cam would need setting to either?

  29. Well they seem to work on standard timing but that gives it way too much topend.

if i do try them i think i'll start of with the timing the vag cams have

    Well the engine is built...

I filled her up with 5L of mineral oil, for running in.

I wanted to establish mechanical oil pressure before fitting the engine, we connected the battery on the starter motor and got it turning over.

You can tell the engine is tight, especially at TDC. But after turning over it was showing 2BAR of oil pressure cranking and oil was getting around the top end.

Next weekend I'll be fitting the engine (fingers crossed)

    My uprated clutch has arrived!

CG Motorsport have taken an r26.r drive plate and covered to a 5 paddle ceramic item.

They've also resurfaced the pressure plate.

Looks great as I said earlier, I'll be interested to see how it drives.

With it utilisating the standard pressure plate I cannot imagine it being any firmer than OEM

  37. This still not built yet.

It took some fiddling to align the drive plate correctly.

Pressure plate installed and torqued to spec, 12Nm.

Next up was fitting a new CSC, this was pre-filled as they're a bugger to bleed!

CSC was bolted to the gearbox, again torqued to spec (25Nm) with loctite.

Gearbox was then bolted to the engine.

DONE, engine is ready to install!

The engine bay has been prepped, cleaned and new engine mounts with Powerflex inserts installed.
