250 Generic remap?

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by JordanJ1035, Sep 5, 2018.

  1. Quick question, anybody on here ever run/currently running a generic map on their standard megs?
If so any issues or was/are they okay?

I ask because I was thinking about one as a stop gap, I have plans to eventually modify the car with decat, intake, intercooler and a proper live map etc
But at the minute funds don’t allow this and I know somebody that can do me a map at cost, rather than £480 at RST, if they are nothing but trouble then I will stay away and wait patiently!

i wouldn't bother, just wait and get it done properly when all the other bits are added.

  3. Waste of money, get your mods done and then take it to efi or rs tuning

  4. Tbh I was thinking the same,
I’m just impatient, and due to being in the process of a house move the car isn’t top of the list for cash being spent on it,
so was just wondering if anybody had any experience with generic maps.

  5. Can't rstuning do a remote map

  6. How much are you looking at paying for a generic map? Chris at EFI charges £350 to remap a stock/lightly modded mk3 which is a nice chunk cheaper than RS Tuning

  7. Yeah that is a fair bit cheaper, usually pay about £180 (I think) had a few Vag tdi’s for customers of mine done by him with good results, just not had a turbo petrol done, I’m pretty sure he uses elite remaps for the map,
General thoughts on here are just get a proper map or wait to mod then map it. At that price though EFI might be worth a drive to, heard good things about them too!

  8. Personally I'd wait and mod it then get it mapped. If, however you're impatient and have an itch to scratch then I'd get it mapped at EFI, then after its been modded go back and get the map tweaked to suit. Chris offers this service at a reduced rate so all done it'd almost certainly be cheaper then a generic map now then a RST map once modded.

Hers some info from the EFI website:

Q: If I've had my ECU tuned by you before, and I make alterations or upgrades, what will the cost of map adjustment be ?
    A:
We thought about this for some time before arriving at what we thought was the fairest solution. Updates and alterations made to any map we have performed previously for you is charged at £80 + the normal dyno hourly rate. This means that simple alterations do not cost as much as substantial ones. An upgrade from Stage 1 to Stage 2 for example might only take an hour hence a cost of £160. Upgrading a map to work with larger injectors and/or a hybrid turbo may take an hour longer.

I absolutely love my EFI remap and plenty others will say the same about Chris's work.

EFI is the place to go imo.

I'm yet to see a hybrid MK3 with a curve as good as Chris got out out mine fc68dd5914448111cb094ad2d6b5e3b3.jpg

  10. Yeah I like the idea of not paying full price for slight map alterations! Also like the look of that graph!!
Might have to be a trip to efi in the near future! About 70 mile away from me so not too far!

  11. Would be interested to see how your boost curve is for that dyno run Jamie

Peaks at 1.7 bar then tapers off to 1.6 towards redline IIRC, ill try grab a copy of boost graph if I have one

  13. Thanks Jamie quite interested in how it climbs from low revs and where it makes 1.0 bar
