Hello, Cut a long story short basically I have a meg 225 and fitted a decat not so long ago, (driveshaft out) since then the gearbox has been weeping onto the driveshaft it seems to be coming from the seal where the shaft goes in, Can you buy a new seal? Are they just a pull out and push in job? Has anyone got the part number or code for the seal? Thanks Paul Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Same happened to me. It drips down onto the subframe not onto the drive so I only noticed as much gearshift got gradually worse as the level dropped! You can buy new seals from Renault Parts Direct, about £15 if I remember right. I got a garage to fit mine when they did my MOT and they said it was a bit of a nightmare
I assume it's just a case of shaft out, pull the old seal out and push a new one in? It's a shame there's no write up on this Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Yeah thats the basic version of events but obviously gearbox oil has to be drained and replaced and to get the driveshaft out requires the hub to be removed. Hub removal means brake removal and all the links and joints connecting the hub have to go too. Apparently on my car the driveshaft was basically seized into the hub and they had to take the whole strut off complete with the hub and driveshaft in one!
Aha that's good to know thanks, my cars in pieces with no front struts so should be a straight forward job Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ahh yeah should be straight forward then. Just make sure you take it easy putting the driveshaft back in, and put a bit of gearbox oil round the seal to help ease it in. The seals are easily damaged if you just rag it into place, hence the leakage!
