Gear position display

  1. Hello Guys,
just a question to the electric specialists:
On the MRS 3 with big R-Link, the gear position display shows the position only once the clutch is released completly. I would much prefer to see the position of the lever, not depending if the clutch is released or not. Sometimes when I´m cruising ( and dreaming) I´m not aware if the 4th or 6th gear is engaged because its not a big difference in rpm for instance in the city with maybe 60 km/h. If I want to overtake suddenly, it has happened that I´ve shifted down and the gear position will be shown first when the clutch is engaged. This is only possible if you have a 6 speed box, with a 5 speed it´s never a problem. Does anyone know if that could be altered on a position sensor or something with not so big expense? It also would be a big advantage on the track. If you chose the wrong gear, it´s too late to see it with clutch engaged, then the engine is blown. It´s not that big problem, but anyway the display makes no sense working the way it does.

  2. Not entirely sure what you’re referring to but that gear lever display is just an advisory gear that the ECU thinks you should be in to get optimum performance from engine, don’t know about you car but mine for example when cruising it’ll always show a lower gear

  3. I think he's referring to the gear display in cars that have R-link and RS monitor.
In theory it is possible but i don't know who can decode proprietary rs monitor software to make the changes you want

  4. @Meg16_Beth .....you are right. Maybe I don´t know the difference....on the RS Monitor, you see what gear you have engaged and the same time what gear would be best on the track. Thats not what I mean. If I´ve the "home" display visible, there´s only shown the gear whats engaged, but as soon as you press the clutch, the display goes on "N". Thats what I don´t like. I want to see what gear is engaged, even once the clutch is pressed. Supposedly there´s a switch at the clutch pedal or linkage what interrupts the display or makes it show Neutral. Maybe there are to switches interacting, one for the gear position and the other on the clutch.
