I know that to some it may be a bit tack, but I'm going to get my windows tinted. As I'm a skinny white boy that has to drive around some dodgy areas of brum I mainly want it done for security. I've already decided to have the rear 3 done in a dark non-limo tint. But I've been told that the tint on the front is already at the max. Is this true because I've seen fronts darker? So I've got the choice of leaving the front or risking it. My question is, anybody else here had their fronts tinted and if so what spec tint did you go for. Makes me wonder how all these range rovers roll around fully blacked out?? Cheers
I was told any tint on the front is illegal, I bought a car with tints and got 3 points and a £60 cause they were too dark...
Cool cheers guys, I suppose the fronts will seem a little darker with less light flooding in the back maybe? I'll leave the fronts as is then. It's just strange seeing other cars with standard tints that must be waaay more than ours.
The ones you're seeing probably just haven't been stopped. The meg does have a standard tint and reflective coating too.
For a legal front window tint in the UK the specifications are: a) Motor Vehicles first used on or after 1 April 1985 b) The light transmitted through the windscreen must be at least 75%. c) The front side windows (to either side of the drivers’ head) must allow at least 70% of light to be transmitted through them.
Really? That's why I got 3 points, and half of Tyne and Wear? They classed it as the vehicle being driving in a dangerous condition.
Law is set out on the governments website Says something like, fine, make you remove them there and then or prohibition notice.
yep thats what i got.prohibition notice able to drive car with windows down to 1 place until its checked over by vosa
We had an officer on a power trip, stopped every car with tints, made to take of at the side of the road and gave points! I needed a solicitor for another matter, told him I already had points on my licence for the tints. Told me about the said officer and how I should have questioned it. Me being me, I just paid the fine and let it go. Regardless, you can still get points but I guess I depends on the officer that pulls you over.
Chris, I wonder if they did you for your vehicle being dangerous? Which if that is the case I'd have gone to court as that is down to interpretation. Let's hole you run over his dog
Mine came with tints all round, got pulled a couple of times but no action taken, just friendly warnings to get it removed. When I finally got round to it I realised how much you cant see compared to when they were removed. I wouldn't have front tints again, besides it looks pretty dark with the rears all done.
Aftermarket tints always look pish imo, i remember the days when everyone used to have diy tints max power style lol
Having it done now. Just having 20% on the back, £90 all in with guarantee, cant complain Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk 2
Tints are a hit and miss subject tbh. I had what I thought was factory tints on the front of my 172 until I got pulled over one morning for having an illegal number plate. After the copper had finished with the plate, he turns and says "What tints do you have? Let's have a look". He got his machine out and it said my windows were only letting 65% of light through. Got a fine and told to remove them. I didn't. In fact I had them on there for about 6 months until I decided to remove them because they were peeling. I recon it was just bad luck that the copper decided to test them after dropping a fine on me for my plates. Must have been in a bad mood.
I know this thread hasn't been used in a while but wanted to show my tints, limo black on the back 3 and a light smoke on the front
Just dark on my rear 3 (well rear 5 since I have a 5 door lol) makes the front seem darker. They are actually pretty good (had them on when I got it) as they act like expensive sunglasses where they seem really dark outside but hardly any darker inside.
I have limo (dogging) black on all 3 rears, I asked about fronts when I got it done he said he did not want to take my money and make me give the police more money, good on him!!
The main reason front tints are illegal is to allow officers to see who is driving! On windscreen though at night it will be hard to see with anything mad on! The standard tints look good gives it the subtle yet naughty look
A lot of tinting companies won't touch the fronts, regardless of money. I saw a police camera show where a guy had limo tints on all 5, and dark smoke on the windscreen. Super dodgy! Haha.
My fronts are tinted and I HATE them. So hard to drive at night, theyre proper dark. The previous owner had them done. Been stopped by the cops a few times and they have just said theyre very dark and then send me on my way heres a few pics of mine Theyre dark during the day and at night you CANNOT see in them at all lol Gonna take them off over the holidays, just need a heat gun. My Advice would be stay away from front window tints, incredibly dangerous when trying to reverse, especially when your windows dont go up or down lol
thats so OTT, glad you're removing. Im tinting my 172s rears n the new year but wouldn't touch the meg, they are dark enough from factory for me and TBH the only reason im really doing the clio bar privacy is for UV on the little un.
Yeah they will be coming off tomorrow. Hate window tints. Every single car I have bought has had them. My last Skyline had them all round as well, looked hideous!
