Hi, I have a problem with my 250 CUP, now is the third time that front right rotor got warped (always replaced with new one). It warps after around 2000-3000km every time. There is no sign of overheating and also almost all the time was gentle driving around city, so chances to overheat are slim to none. Front calipers were refurbished, so no problem with the caliper, also changed wheel bearing. And I don't have any more ideas what could be wrong. And since is always the right rotor I presume there must be mechanical problem. Any ideas would be much appreciated. P.S. Rotors and pads are OEM.
Sure they're warped? Quite often people mis-diagnose them with uneven pad deposits, which also give a judder effect under braking.
I taught that to and I tried to re-bed them, did 10-15 hard stops from around 150km/h to 40km/h to remove uneven pad deposits, but no luck. And also it is strange that only right rotor would get uneven pad deposits 3 times in a row.
Sounds like pad glazing is more likely than a bent discs but neither should be an issue if ita just road driving. Are the pada making full contact with the face pf the disc? A ring of surface rust on the inner or outter edge would mean full contact isnt being made. Oem disc'sand pads shouldnt rrequire hard braking to bed them in either so you may be getting them to hot to quickly. Dave
I don't see any abnormal wear on rotors. First "beding" was done much more gently, the second time I was trying to remove what I taught it was pad deposit. Second time they replaced my rotor under warranty, pads were not replaced only cleaned surface facing rotor (i know this is not good but they had only 2kkm on them) so I presume it is not pads fault, unless pads were glazed before and they removed glazing when the cleaned them and now pad are glazed again?
Have you checked the hub mounting and wheel bearing? Perhaps something is making it run untrue, if not I'd use a different set of pads.
Bearing was also replaced, hub mounting was not replaced but it was checked and it was not bent. But I am thinking of replacing it anyway just to be sure, and then also new pads. Any recommendations which pads should I buy, now I have OEM. Is it possible something else that is bent or loose could cause warped rotor besides hub?
I noticed one new strange thing. If brakes are cold, shaking is almost non existent. Warmer they are more shaking you feel. So now I have doubts in my theory about warped rotor and now leaning more toward bad pads or pad deposits. Tomorrow I will go to specialist to check if they are actually warped.
Hub was checked some time ago and it was ok, I am planing to check the rotor tomorrow before doing anything else. To see if it is actual problem with rotors or something else
So I have problem with rotor as I said before now it is confirmed, it was thickness variation problem. So I am thinking if something can cause rotor to wobble and cause thickness variation? Since hub was checked and it was ok, I wonder what else could cause the problem? I am running out of ideas any help would be greatly appreciated.
Yes after confirming the problem they machined the rotors and I got new pads (TEXTAR), so it was ok for about 1000km but now i think the steering wheel shake is slightly present again (is coming back not always present). I didn't replace my rotors because I am afraid that the problem will come back again and rotors will be ruined again. So what else could cause this? I have to mention again, there was almost no hard braking since last rotor replacement.
Have the hub faces been cleaned before the discs fitted? Might be corrosion behind causing run out on the disc.
I didn't do brake job myself, but I certainly hope that Official Renault Garage did think of that after second time replacing rotors under warranty. But I will check that also myself. P.S. I noticed slight pull to the right side when driving on motorway if I let go of the steering wheel. Is there a possibility that bad alignment could cause problem with rotors? Or maybe something that can cause bad alignment also cause problem with rotors? And I forgot to add it is not a sticking caliper.
