Who hyped the car up? Ford? Or the media outlets? Ford have played a marketing game, I've followed this from the start, I've never seen them to have hyped their car to be the fastest thing ever! However, they have not made any secret that their aim was to create a car that was dynamic, fun, fast and cheaper than its 4wd competitors, and that is exactly what they have done. That is exactly why it's so highly regarded. Most hype was based on pre price rises, would it have been hyped as much with its current price tag, probably not. But that doesn't matter much to me as I never saw them.
These are an investment Prices are rising cause people can't get them fast enough like the Mk2 The Mk2 could of been had for 25k when new and now they averaging around 22k for a decent one The rs range are mostly a free driving;just a couple that wasn't
One things for sure if I had a focus rs I wouldn't spend day and night on a Renault megane forum trying to justify How good the £38000 focus is. We know it's a decent car so is every other hot hatch on sale today. Don't take it to heart that some of us megane owners don't like certain aspects of the focus.
Until a couple of days ago I had an R26, I've now decided it may be replaced with a 250 now they're cheap for some nice dry weather action. Not that my presence here needs justifying. Nothing's taken to heart, it's a discussion forum, where people discuss things, I'm just giving opposing viewpoints just like everyone else. X
Let's try and move the Focus chat away from other threads. http://www.independent.co.uk/life-s...with-super-hatch-of-the-century-a7057051.html http://www.driving.co.uk/car-reviews/the-clarkson-review-2016-ford-focus-rs/ "Put all of this lot together and what you get is, as the critics have been saying, something really quite inspirational. A genuine half-price GT-R." Not a single bad review, not anywhere. Let the hate continue.
Why people keep trying to justify the car I don't know on a marquee specific forum? you've quoted 'pro points' and skipped some of the 'negatives' As for 1/2 price GT-R quote thats made in the article I literally nearly choked especially as it's written from Clarkson he's lost a lot of respect for me for that. Firstly it's nothing like a GT-R in terms of performance (2 seconds difference 0-62 and up the range the gap gets bigger and bigger) or ability and second thats a remark being made compared to a car that was released in 2008!!!! <----- Why would anyone make a comparison to a car thats been out for 8 years! thats shocking journalism. No hate on me for the car just the poor journalism and people only posting the pros.
No justification needed so you can rest your mind on the one. If the forum owners didn't want other marquees discussed they wouldn't have a section for it. People who like the car will pick up on the pros, people who don't, only pick up on the negatives, that's the way the internet/world works. It's great that the pros vastly outnumber the cons, and it's great that people search high and low, and bring up unrelated marquees (not related to the on this thread is aimed at) in a feeble attempt to knock a car they've never driven.
If you mean feeble attempt to knock a car they've never driven in relation to my remark I've owned 4 GT-Rs since 2009 one of which I've had for over 4 years and I've driven the new Focus RS and i'm testing it July 3rd driving it; Folkestone > Champagne > Chambery > Mont Cenis > Val D'Isere> Petit St Bernard > Grand St Bernard > Furka > Susten > Grimsel > St Gotthard > Nufenen > Julier > St Mortiz > Livigno > Bormio > Stelvio > Umbrail > Offenpass > Fluela > Davos > Zurich > Black Forest > Baden Baden > Reims > Calais I already have my initial impressions and I feel after the trip I'll be more than able after several days of long driving to be allowed a verdict. I've done the same trip in reverse in the GT-R so I'll be able to formulate my own decision on whether the Focus is just as good at 1/2 the price. If you mean it in generalisation of 90% of people giving opinions then thats fair enough your statement. However finishing your remark with "Let the hate continue" is in my opinion attempting to get people making remarks. As said just my opinion.
Yes it was a generalised comment (pretty obvious in my opinion) so YOU can stand down. I'll be interested in your thoughts on the car. Out of interest what's behind that journey?
Every few years group of us decide to jump in cars and drive around Europe for a hoon up the mountain passes with breaks between to catch up and get drunk, gamble at Monaco and generally pretend we're 18 again. We jump between cars, so got a few McLarens, Porsche 918's, 911 GT3 RS, BMW 1M, M2, M3 & M4 some JB4 tuned and just lark around really, largest fine so far was £14,000 for speeding on a mountain pass 3 years ago.
Sounds pretty epic. Who's taking the Focus RS? Can we expect pics? Collections like that usually go down quite well on forums.
And so as per 1st ever post in this thread. I picked my Focus Rs up on saturday, long wait but it seems worth it, early days i well know. Ive owned a long long line of hot hatches and driven most others at one time or another, the last 3 being a 197 clio cup, 250 megane cup and a 280 leon cupra, as i said early early days but its got a fizz about it like a rensport cars and feels more fun already then the Cupra ever did..
Good news! What spec did you go with? On a separate note, they're all sold apparently. It's been reported that Ford UK are trying to negotiate another 1000 from other markets. Not bad for a fatty.
Stop typing, get it to Ed, get the pics up. [emoji34][emoji41][emoji3] Good spec and colour. I'm seriously considering one along with another few choices. Although going to enjoy the Meg for another year first I think. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Cheers R26. I had my Meg 250 cup for 3 years, great car. But we all move on to other types/makes, , , , , well i do.

Of course will do same as did previously, most likely will stick in on PH. Get some good back drops and crazy Norwegians Focus is a chaps in Croydon, the M2, M3 and M4 are all same chaps with friends driving them, the M3 has just returned after being put into a bridge.
I popped into Eds last Saturday to have a nosey of your RS (i hope you don't mind!) - it does look pretty mighty in the flesh. He got to talking about you giving back your Cupra 280 to get the RS and then showed me the crazy lease deal on the new Cupra 290 black from Contract UK Vehicle Leasing...well...now my 290 is on order for late Sept delivery!! If they'd had as good a deal on the RS then i'd have got one after just seeing yours in Eds garage sitting still...
My 2 pence. I love how the RS looks and drove one last week with a view to buying it was massively underwhelmed. It just didn't feel as special or as exciting as my 276 trophy (with ohlins). Suspension felt more crashy than mine, steering too light, and it felt a bit gutless in normal mode. Shame as i wanted to love it. I'd like to have another go in one to give it more of a chance but at this point I'm sticking with the meg[emoji1303] much better vfm too. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ps. I am also amazed how no one else, literally no motoring journalist has highlighted these points. Oh and yea as clarkson says you sit too high and cannot adjust the height despite the seats being the same as the Megane[emoji848] Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
No problems mate. He has sent me a few photos that look stunning, im flying out of Spain in a hour or so and going to pick it up on the way home. I didnt have the Leon on lease i brought it outright and sold it to a trader up north, lost a packet of money on it lol.
So for the first time Mountune have developed and advertised a staged package. First time. 375ps 510nm. So much for the armchair experts.
I see they have also brought out stronger internals for the gearbox. I wonder how much additional power can be extracted
Staged package? Am i missing something, They are just doing what they always do, Granted they are doing one which sounds like a Ford Performance kit and then their own Mountune kit, which i ca imagine will potentially void some of the warranty akin to the Clubsport or MR kits of previous models. Always pretty conservative in their final outputs as well but they do drive well, I had a MP Fiesta before the MEgane and it di transform the way it drove.
My mates mechanic at ford so I managed to get a good run in one. Launched it and filmed it was ace off the line and seemed quick however in gear it didn't feel any quicker than my standard 250. Sound was okay, handling was great loved it and drift more is ridiculous. It literally drives itself. I found when you nail it on the slightest of bends in second and in drift mode it wants to step immediately it's a very strange feeling! all in all I enjoyed it but wouldn't say it was amazing. I've driven all mks and the MK1 is the daddy as an all round. Still doesn't beat a new st fiesta for all round fun / experience for me!
Out of interest what is the maximum torque the standard gearbox is able to take as it looks like once more power is unleashed the likely hood is you'll have to spend 3k upgrading the gearbox internals. Strange why ford with hindsight didn't consider this given the fact that every fast ford has been modified throughout the RS and cosworth timeline by a large amount of owners.
A case in point I'm no ford hater as I use to have a white series 2 escort RS turbo for 5yrs which was heavily modified
