225 Fixed stiff gearshift but lever won't self centre...

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Tony Haycock, May 9, 2021.

  1. I've sorted my stiff gear lever by lubricating the bush but it it feels like there is a spring missing as it doesn't self centre between third and fourth gear like it should. Any suggestions? (2005 RS225)

  2. the bush needs opening out,not just lubrication..

  3. Ok, I'll try to take it out, but it is really loose now.

  4. It takes 10.1 mm drill bit, then grease.

  5. Are all parts of the linkage running smooth when it’s out the car in your hand?does it get worse as the car warms up?..don’t over tighten the 4 bolts on the top

  6. I lubricated it in situ. I'll pull it out tomorrow...

  7. I have same problem. Is this Bush under the battery ?

Yes it is, the problem is the aluminium gets moist and then corrosion starts, you know the white powdery stuff, this happens between the bush and the hole, then it pushes on the bush and clamps on the shaft.

  9. Ah I see! I had a short shifter fitted few years ago so not looked at it myself... Will have a go this weekend. Cheers Ian [emoji106]
