Anyone done this and have decent pics of where the pins fit under the bonnet and also where the catches go on the outer bonnet? I've seen a few pics but when I look at where the pics would go relative to the catches, they seem to be in the plastic trim near the headlights?!!
Mk2, I don't think there's any hard n fast rule, the pins have got to be fixed to the front panel/wings, so just mount them where you think is appropriate and then pop a dab of blu-tack on the tops of the pins and then softly close the bonnet and the blu-tack will hopefully stick to the bottom of the bonnet and you can then cut the hole for the catches. Bob's your uncle.
On standard bonnet or something else? If using a 'lightweight' bonnet make sure the latches aren't too far apart, as there might be some flex on it, when wind goes underneath it when driven swiftly (typical issue on 3 series BMW track/race cars, when the latches are installed too far on the outside).
Hahaha...love it. Mikey is a popular guy clearly, I've given you both a like for your messages as I believe in being fair
Well I'm trying to get a 'lightweight' item but the seller doesn't seem to like large amounts of cash he must be allergic to it like my bank account is... I'm thinking there are a few holes on the metal cross bar behind the headlights but when you look at that on the bonnet it's on the curved section or the crease between that and flat top section. All the photos I've seen have the catch just above the headlight next to the horizontal 'middle' of the bonnet front where the badge sits??
Blah. The Aerocatch ‘surround’ will bend the bonnet straight ever so slightly when you fit it, so no need to worry if you're fitting it to a curved section. Just find a section with no cross-members behind it and line it up with where you want to attach the pins and you'll be fine. In all seriousness though the weight saving will be negligible even after you've removed the handle, cable and catch/latch. Fun job to do, but possibly worthless
