First track day: 1st September Oulton Park

  1. Hi guys,

Making my first post as I've just booked my first ever track day after owning my Megane 250 (Non cup) for 3 months. So far I'm absolutely loving the car and I'm really excited about getting to track it.

I thought I'd post asking for any general advice for a track day as well as some specific advice about some brake upgrades to give the car a bit more stamina for track driving. I'm thinking about upgrading the brake pads, fluids and maybe the brake lines. I'm hoping to track the car 1 or 2 times a year and after a few spirited drives I've noticed the brake getting spongey so I'm wanting to invest some money to make it safer for the track.

    Pads
I've done some googling and the only pads I can find are the Ferodo DS3000 and the CL brakes. Does anyone which of these is the best option? How many miles do these sort of pads last. Do you guys keep them on for daily driving or just track days?

    Fluids
I've found a few different brands and they all seem to say the same sort of thing. Does brand make much difference or can I save a few pounds here?

    Braided lines
Is there any point or am I okay just upgrading pads and fluids?

Also are there any other worthy upgrades for a track day which will help my Megane cope? I'm hoping to keep it under about £500 but I don't have any tools so I will most likely be getting a garage to do the upgrades for me.

Cheers in advance for any help,

    Tom

  2. CL RC5+ pads up front, K-TEC braided lines which are made by HEL iirc, montul RBF600 fluid.

If you're only doing 1-2 track days a year, leave it at that. Maybe chuck some Michelin pilot super sports on and spend the rest of the money on tuition.

Just remember, only get on the gas when you know you never have to come off again, and the exit of the corner is far more important than the entry on the corner.

    Have fun!

  3. Cheers for the advice. I've booked tuition on the day so hopefully that will help. Do I not need to upgrade the rear pads then? Doesn't it affect the brake balance at all?

  4. Can do if you want. I've just put some standard ones on mine for now because Ads on here was doing a deal where I could get rear pads for £12 lol
