Fast road pads which don’t squeal?

  1. Although my R26 is for sale, I’m actually thinking of keeping it and upgrading the brakes. Currently has plain Pagid discs and oem pads. Fine for normal day to day driving but fine then lacking with fast road use.

My mates R26 had Godspeed 330mm G hook discs with DS UNO on the front and Oem discs and DS2500 on the rear. The difference is immense. The stopping power and bite from cold is in another league. However, they do squeal a bit with normal use.

What pads would people recommend for fast road that don’t squeal and squeak?

  2. I've have been using RP1 from EBC in the front standard drilled discs for two years now and so far haven't heared a single squeak even whem very hot brakes. The bite is pretty high from cold but modulation is a bit suboptimal to be fair and I don't find them to be a dusty pad if you care about that. They aren't cheap though for the performance they offer but for fast road driving, I'm very happy with them and I still have 40% of pad material left after roughly 20.000km.

In the rear I have standard discs and pads but they are on the weak side when heavy braking. I think a DS2500 or similar will provide a nice balance between the two axles.Worth mentioning that I'm using AP R3 brake fluid and braided lines.

  3. standard brakes will be fine if in good shape.
Will need a full fluid flush with something like srf or rbf600.
I have DS1.11 in mine, which offer very good initial bite and resistance to fade.
I havnt heard any squealing from them either.

If you really want to throw some money at them, the mk3 calliper/disk conversion is a very popular mod on mk2`s
Not silly money, and many people report fade free brakes even with hard track use.

  4. The brakes are fine I guess, it’s just since driving my mates I’ve seen how much better they can be. I’ve been looking at DS1.11’s but I’ve seen plenty reports of them squealing so it’s encouraging to hear otherwise.
Cost isn’t really an issue, I plan on doing front and rear both discs and pads (if I keep the car) plus fresh fluid. Although tempted by the Mk3 conversion, I’m not sure it’s required for road use. Unfortunately I live way too far from any tracks to make it something I could regularly do. So predominantly road use.

  5. my mate had ds111 in his integra track car,and they squealed..nothing from mine..even when hammering them.
The Carbotech xp8`s i had before would grind at slow speeds..maybe its down to pad deposits, different disks etc.

Good Fluid and braided lines will give you the best pedal possible.

If alls well with the callipers, you would have to be pushing really hard to fade Ds111`s with fast road driving.
I had DS2500 in the rear, but actually found they would still groan at high speed stops, which it isnt doing now with new OEM Brembos.

Guys i know with the mk3 set up.say it really is a step up when tracking the car.
But as you mentioned..unless you are doing track work, the cost of swapping over the disks, pads, callipers, plus the expense of the fabricated mounting brackets, and re drilled disks to fit...it might be overkill.
You can argue, though, that stronger brakes are always a good thing to have..

At castle combe a couple weks back,my mate completely lost his brake pedal after 5 hard laps in his Audi TT RS..uses the same pad as the mk3 callipers, had floating disks and new xp8 pads..He ended up completely boiling the fluid, which spilled out of the reservoir.Track work certainly highlights the importance of good brakes!
