Hi Guys, I've seen a few of you have fitted carbon bonnets to your F1's. Did the car feel any different driving afterwards? Or was it purely for the carbon look? Really interested in a weight loss program for the F1. Would be cool to know what makes the biggest differences. Cheers, Richard
Weight wise - the single biggest saving is the rear seat bench - around 25Kg, the bonnet is one of the least cost effective weight saving things, a half fibreglass one will save you around 7kg but set you back 600 if you can find one. Selling your recaros for fixed back buckets is also fairly cost effective way of saving weight.
Here's some info off another site..... Boot Floor - 5.4kg Parcel Shelf - 1.4kg Rear Seat Belt Buckles - 0.7kg Small Rear Seat Base - 2kg Large Rear Seat Base - 2.9kg Small Rear Seat Back - 6.2kg Large Rear Seat Back - 15kg Steel Spare Wheel - 19kg Tool Kit (jack etc) - 3kg Cigarette Lighter - 25g Ash Tray Thingy - 80g Standard Megane Door Speakers - 150g each Engine Cover (with rubber grommets) - 1.2kg Set of OEM Megane Floor Mats - 1.8kg Standard Headunit - 1.4kg Fog Lights (Pair) - 0.6kg Aerial - 33g Standard Exhaust - 17.1kg Wing Mirrors (Each) - 870g R26 Trendline Front Seat - 14kg R26 Trendline Front Seat Subframe - 8kg Rear Seat Belt Reels - 2kg each The poly rear 3 windows in the R26.R are fairly cheap (250 for a set IIRC) but like the bonnet, only going to give you a single figure Kg weight saving
I often wondered how heavy the K-tec bases are, our Recaros aren't that heavy so its only worthwhile doing buckets for weight saving if the original bases are binned off and replaced by either welded in seat mounting tubes or K-tec bases. Thanks for the list papps.
That's actually really helpful, nice one. So taking the rear seats and parcel shelf out is going to save you about 40kg. That's half a passenger!!
£250 for R26.R polycarbonate rear windows, not a chance, the rear screen is getting on for 1k on its own I think, a mate priced a side window up at £650
This is brilliant guys. Thank you very much. Theres a real trade off between weight savings and practicality. I was hoping for more weight saving from the windows, bonnet and exhaust. Think the biggest saving is me going on a diet lol
Think its actually a little less now - http://www.acwmotorsportplastics.co...-3dr-full-lexan-polycarbonate-window-kit.html
While we're at the subject, here's a couple of other good weight saving things. 1. Aircon removal - need the clio 197 cup AC bracket as a replacement part, should free up power in the engine as well? (someone confirm?) 2. Airbag removal - removes a lot of weight high up in the car - this is going to reduce the centre of gravity. Only do this if you're getting proper FIA harnesses installed properly of course.
I have just ordered a set of rear (3 pieces) from Plastic for Performance for about 410 quid + p&p and they are 3mm hardcoated.
