I have one of the last of the 275 Cup-S registered on 15k. Only doing 5k a year. In the 3 years/13k I had it only had a headlight (non-xenon) replaced under warranty. These cars came with 4 years warranty and mine had a 1 year top up by previous owner. Which ends at end Sept. Got offer to extend for £419. I have previously paid £360 for my old 330i (got moneys worth) & over £1k for my E92 M3 ( probably made easier to sell). Would you bother? I was not to fussed but there seems enough talk about gearbox/diffs to make me worry a little. Although by 20k I may still be to early for problems. Also Renault Dealers don't seem to have much experience with these cars so I was going to swap to a specialist for Cambelt etc next year.
It was £620 for the gearbox rebuild on my old Megane 275 so not that much difference between the £419 if it did happen early. I do kind of want to say that I've seen enough online with the same problem now that it's more than a question of 'when' and not 'if' the bearings fail - This is purely based on the 275 models. Mine was on around 30k miles when it happened - Personally I'd save the £419 tbh, that's mainly because of your low mileage. The £419 will cover the majority of the costs if it does happen to develop the fault. Just something to think about as you mentioned Cambelt change, I got mine done early at 5 years due to hearing a few bad stories, here's an example from Ben of PistonHeads;
Is that a years extension? if so id save the money. if its for a few years then might be worth it knowing that a gearbox rebuild could be due
Well I did it. Bit of Gearbox paranoia and my Radio can be a bit temperamental freezing the whole unit on DAB. So may get that looked at. I was doing over a grand on my E92 M3 and about £400 on my 330i. So I have had 3 years of zero cost on my Meg with Warranty already extended to 5 years & a 4 year service pack when I got a 2 years. So figured I could suck it up.
Not that I am planning to sell but I am a sucker for a transferrable OEM warranty on a car when I buy one. Takes some risk out of buying privately. 15k miles standard Cup-S loaded with all options in LY. Last made reg Sep 16 with 'CUP' Plate. With extended warranty.... advert writes itself. Haha. If only M2 Comp was not double money......
