Hey, I have a 3" decat with Ktec 3" exhaust and its just too loud for me now . . . Thinking to swap for a different quieter aftermarket or even going back to standard. How restrictive is the standard exhaust because on last dyno engine produced 300bhp with Stage 2 mods. Going to leave the de-cat but was hoping to switch to standard exhaust and keep same power. Any thoughts?
What I remember reading was that the standard exhaust is good for about 290bhp, IIRC that was with a decat
I'd keep the exhaust and drop to a sports cat or a standard cat - afaik it's the decat that makes most of the noise..
But its also the decat which makes most of the power (-; Too much labour time to swap the decat as well thats why I'm going the exhaust route to make it quieter . . .
Then you're stuck with the noise - the 3" exhaust is regarded to be very comfortable noise wise. Ultimately if you want it quieter you'll need to lose some power.
The milltek 2.75" is a quieter system. When I had my R26 I had the decat and the ktec system with the smaller box and that was too much. I swapped the rear box for the newer milltek one and the difference was night and day, a perfect blend of bass and noise when on the gas but it never droned or was too loud. Power wise she was running around 295bhp so was no slouch.
Put a small silencer in rich as already mentioned? gavrook - decat sounds incredible on miltek system i ran it on my old cup as miltek system way to quiet as standard. Obviously would need friendly mot tester though
Yeah its an option . . . Although I was thinking about selling it sometime this year and going back to standard would prob make it easier to shift. Plus I could claw back some money on the Ktec system . . . so perhaps anyone who is looking to upgrade and is handy with a set of spanners (-: Just don't want to upset the map or lose too much power for Summer months.
I know what ya mean I been in two minds if to cut the remaining box out my miltek or just buy a decat but the decats are a far bit of cash for what they are so might just wait for a good 2nd hand one.
there was one that just went on ebay for £100 absolute bargain but he wanted collection only and didnt want to travel. Someone got a bargain
Yeah fancy a change . . . its not ideal for a daily really especially with the exhaust noise and lairy colour! I only paid about £130 for my de-cat, got it from a guy called Mark Yates, he was working with Scorpion, can't find the link but have his email if interested. Although most money is in the labour time as its a 4-5 hr job I believe.
