engine light flashing.......

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by seven, Jun 18, 2014.

  1. About a week ago I was driving at about 20 mph and noticed the engine light flashing. I aaccelerated sightly and it stopped. I used the torque app and got the error - p0300 random/multi misfire.
I took it to the local garage who hooked it up and replaced number 3 coil. Thought it was all sorted but it same thing happened again. Light came on, accelerated, went off, same error code.
Don't want to go back to that garage. Is there anything I can try myself? Not the best with cars but willing to give it a go.
    Thanks

  2. Is it the toxic emssions light? Looks a bit like a tap?
Does it ever do it when idling? Does the exhaust "cough" when idling?
How many miles have you done? Ever had the injectors cleaned?

  3. Yes is is the toxic light. Only happened twice whilst driving show, could have been when idle.
The exhaust does cough. Not had the injectors cleaned and can't find anything in the history to suggest they have before.

  4. From the sounds of it fella it'l be the injectors need cleaning that sounds like exactly what happened on mine i had p03000 and low fuel misfire too.
Liquidf1 (i think) used to do an exchange service for about £90 IIRC might be worth contacting him?
Or if you can be without your car for a few days injector tune had an agreement with meganesport for a deal on cleaning i think it was £57 quid for a postal ultrasonic clean and return service, it normally takes a few days to get them back though.
I ended up buying a set of dirty second hand injectors to get cleaned up cost me £30 for a second hand set,

  5. Thanks for the reply. Can I not just take the car somewhere and let them do it all for me? Does it need to go to a specialist?

  6. No worries fella.
Quite few places in the UK will do injector cleaning (it has to be a specialist cleaner but not a RS specialist) it won't be very cheap though i'd imagine. As they'l probably charge you for labour fitting/ removing the injectors and then cleaning them too, the local place near me wanted nearly £40 quid each injector although i'm unsure if this included fitting/ removal costs also.
the link below should point you to some injector cleaning places hopefully there'l be one near you.

Although I imagine buying new and fitting them themselves would be cheaper, their around £160 for 4 new injectors fitting them is easy, more so if you have small hands!
Whereabouts are you? Theres probably a member local who would fit them for you for a few beer tokens

  7. yep had the same with mine, ended up changing coil pack 3 and then getting a cleaned set off the forums here. cleared up the lumpy idle and toxic fault
fitting them is quite easy however make sure that the fuel rail feed is clipped back on properly! when I did mine the clip was just hanging on and popped off when I went to turn over the engine, fuel spilling everywhere
    rooky mistake by me doh!

  8. Thanks guys, I would rather pay someone to do it. I'm in Stockport near Manchester if anyones local? Failing that I'll make a few inquiries with the links posted.
Out of interest, if I was to buy a new set where would be the best place?

  9. Looked at the guides and it looks pretty straight forward. One of the cleaning places is quite local to me also. How long does it take for them to clean the injectors? Could it be fine in a day?
