Engine builder - who's the daddy???

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by R26Man, Jun 30, 2015.

  1. Hi All,

Thinking of rebuilding my R26 for 350/400+.

Who's the Daddy out there for a drive in, drive out fully mapped, reliable and cost effective service.

Answers appreciated from those who have been there!!

    Cheers

  2. I've got mine in with engine dynamics at the mo. The guys there are top blokes, highly recommended.

  3. I'd do it but cannot offer the warrantys these big company's do as I'm just a man with a garage working evenings and weekends and have mate that is a remap'ist with DNA tuning... Also live in what is equivalent to Middle Earth in west wales haha

  4. Engine dynamics are the daddy , tell them what you want and they will do it, turn key job

  5. Engine dynamics +1.

  6. They can only do the spanner work not fuel rail or mapping. Shame

My R26 is at RS Tuning being forged at the moment. I've got a 250 hybrid so will likely get 330 to 350bhp.

To achieve 350/400 bhp you'll need a different turbo + manifold, cams, fuel system etc

Also it's important that you choose the builder you use carefully. I've been stung by having a forged engine fail after 5000 miles so it can be an expensive lesson to learn.

I've used RS Tuning this time so the engine and mapping etc are all under one roof.

  8. I enquirered at engine dynamics about getting 320 bhp done they said it wasn't a problem, think that would be enough

  9. Are you fitting a custom fuel rail Tim or is it going to be done on standard fuel rail?

    Mattyt likes this.
  10. Sure u can get 400 on standard cams with gt28 twinscroll or gt30

  11. gonna need custom fuel system for 350

  12. Stick at 349 then lol

  13. Standard cams cams can do 400

  14. just needs more boost pressure or a bigger turbo :tongueout:

Decent set of cam could make it a lot easier. but then it's what you like to spend vs what you like to achieve

I haven't decided for certain yet but think I'll stick with standard fuel system for now.

My build is going to have Catcams on Paul's advice and so I don't have to open up the engine again.

Then if I want more power in future I can just upgrade the fuel system.

You might as well go with aftermarket cams if you've gone to trouble of a forged engine and gt28 turbo.

  17. catcams and the rstuning hybrid right? Assuming uprated valve springs too then....

Would be interesting to see what you end up with! Can't remember but do you have a helix clutch or R26R clutch?

Yes, that's right and the R26r clutch.

    Spec is:

    83mm CP pistons
    PEC i-beam rods
    Catcams cams
    Supertech standard size valves
    Uprated valve springs
    RS Tuning 250 hybrid
    Forge recirc and actuator
    630cc injectors
    ITG induction kit
    Forge hard pipes
    Forge intercooler
    Forge coolant hoses
    RS Tuning 3" decat
    Ktec 3" exhaust
    R26r clutch and SMF

  19. Wonder what the r26r clutch is going to hold!

mj57 is going to try his luck with it too

we're stealing a thread here though, time to update yours on here mate!
