A little background first.. A few weeks ago my RS250 Cup started misfiring and clouds of white smoke poured out the exhaust. There was a strong smell of fuel. Had it recovered to a Renault independent specialist. There were dozens of fault codes. He needed to reset the ECU with a code from Renault to get rid. Still couldn't work out the issue. It seemed like a valve or valve lifter was stuck causing it to over fuel. Litres of fuel had dumped into the sump. He did a lot of work on running cleaner through the fuel rails and injectors and through the engine (the CAT was all 'gummed' up.) Eventually it stopped mis firing and was running ok - still running a little rich. Anyway, seems OK now but he did suggest that possibly it didn't like E10 fuel. He reckoned I shouldn't be using E10 but useing a super like Shell 98 or BP 97. I have reserched and nowhere suggests that E10 is a problem on this car. I do use Tesco 99 on my other car - a highly modified VX200 Turbo running 330bhp but never considered running anything other than normal fuel on the Megane as it doesn't get driven too hard (it's my wifes car really). Any thoughts? Could E10 or lower Octane fuel be the issue?
So, did a long run today. After 80 miles the engine light came on with message 'Check Anti Pollution System'. Running ok. Any thoughts?
Yep - noticed that! Not needed much advice over 8 years of RS 250 ownership. Suprised there isn't more chat about these carts though. Having said that traditional forums have dropped in popularity with the rise of Facebook. Sad really as you don't get the same depth of discussion or search ability on FB.
Just to wrap up this thread. 'Check Anti Pollution System' message disappeared after 100 mile or so. Cars done 400 miles since 'fixed' and is running nicely. Don't really know what the original issue was but it seems fixed without any mechanical work so it seems whatever the garage did seems to have sorted it out. I don't believe the E5 petrol is a problem personally. I'm also not convinced that running on premium fuel is particularly necessary on this car. Even at 250bhp it's quite a conservative amount ot power for a 2 litre turbo. My VX220 2.0 turbo has run 330bhp for 60,000 miles with no mechanical upgrades and really gets driven hard on track. My guess is stuck injector which has now been cleared or some random sensor/software issue.
