Driveshaft Replacement

  1. Any tips for replacing NS driveshaft?
Obviously drain gearbox oil and loosen nut whilst on the deck, remove wheel then what?
I'm aware that there's three bolts at the box end of the shaft or have I got that wrong?
    Any help greatly appreciated

  2. Are you replacing the inner drive shaft cup or the actual outer CVJs at each end of the driveshaft or the shaft itself (I doubt you'll be changing the shaft)?

If not the actual driveshaft cup then you don't need to drop the GB fluid.

You will probably need to disconnect bottom steering arm in order to move hub away from shaft in order to get onto outer CVJ if that's what you are changing. If its the inner CVJ you can still either slide them out of the cup or disconnect from the gearbox end via bolts if the arrangement is that way on your car. You'll then need to change the CVJ on the bench.

Bit difficult (and probably confusing) to explain without an exact idea of what it is you need to replace.

Not that perilous. Outer CVJ can be changed in situ if you get it off the hub, wind the main bolt back in and use a slide hammer to pull it out!

  3. The whole driveshaft from the gearbox to the hub :tongueout:

  4. Why? What is wrong with it?

  5. clicking from the CVJ, easiest method is to replace the shaft
im going to try it myself, I need to order up anti twist links and drop links as ill change them at the same time and do a gearbox oil refresh

  6. Easiest method is to replace the CVJ I'd have thought. Well it's certainly the most common.

By shaft so you mean the shaft plus both CVJs?

    Inner or outer?
