I was driving on the motorway at the weekend, doing about 80mph, when suddenly the car got a large wobble, vibration through the steering wheel. It felt like one of the wheels was coming loose. As soon as the car gets over 45mph the vibration was terrible. I was 150 miles from home, so I had to get the car recovered. The vibration is only under load, when I come off the throttle it goes away. I'm hoping it one of the inner CV joint's and not something too serious (like the DMF). The wheels have been balanced so it's not them. Does anyone know where you can get the inner CV joints from? I've seen a few threads on here about the outer but not the inner.
That sounds more suspension related than cv joints but you can get them from mister auto/ecp. I bought a full driveshaft from ecp on their weekend sales for 130 quid
But also jack car up and move wheel about for play. When my swivel bearings failed I had vibration but mainly on braking. Easy to feel the movement though
I had to buy a new complete driveshaft in the end. I also bought some new swivel bearings as well, so I can always swap them out if they need it when the hubs are off.
I thought I would update this in case someone had a similar problem. This did turn out to be the inner CV joint. I bought a complete new shaft from Euro car parts for £122 on one of there sales. I couldn't find anyone selling the CV joint on its own, but if you went to a specialist driveshaft company they maybe able to source one The swivel bearings where fine, which was nice, but I found the lower engine mount was knackered, so the balance was restored.
