Drivers side back light stopped working!

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by Nightingale95, Jun 24, 2015.

  1. Hi guys. Noticed last night the drivers side back light isn't working anymore, but the brake light does and it's the same bulb? I tried a new bulb and same thing happens. Could be a fuse but I'm not sure if it! Anyone got any idea?

    Thanks

    Checked the bulb?

  3. Yes I've tried a new one

  4. is the bulb held in the holder straight and tight? also check that there isn't any corrosion or muck around the contact surfaces.

    have you got a multimeter?

  5. I haven't but a friend has and it showed 0v... Seems strange

  6. normally fuses protect many bulbs so you'd probably have a lot of lights not working if it were a fuse,

  7. it sounds daft but did he try with lights switched both on and off? possibly a broken wire or connection, have you changed/moved/fixed anything electrical recently that could have possibly damaged something?

  8. I will have another look. The number plate lights where out so I removed the tail light to get the earth from to check them with the multimeter but I removed the bulb whilst it was still turned on. Would that make any difference? It's not the first time I've done it.

  9. Ok so now I'm even more confused! I've tried swapping the light insides over and it still doesn't work using the passenger side tail light but the driver side insides work on the passenger side. Surely this means it's wiring or connector? Can't see it being a fuse as it's only that one light? Any help would be much appreciated!

It'll be the bulb holder yes - Have you got any signs of corrosion or damage to it? Check the connections very carefully

When you said above that the DMM showed 0v present where did you take this measurement from?

  11. Rights it's even worse now. I have no tail lights, no side lights and no centre console lights (around head unit, AC, climate control etc.) I'm starting to think this is going to be an expensive job. Can anyone guide me in the write direction? Thanks!
