My car only had an oil change in April and has done 6000 miles since, but the oil looks kinda dirty. Not ridiculous diesel dirty but in my mind it should look cleaner. I was planning to service it til April this year. :-s
genuine oil filter is 5€ and should be changed at the same time as the oil, and not only when being serviced. and the difference between the genuine and cheaper ones are enormous. notice the difference in the surface of the two at left (cheap) compared to the one on the right (OE)
Previous owner had it serviced. Marshall Renault & Mazda, Milton Keynes. Anyone got a photo of their dipstick after 6000 miles?
Tbh, it's gonna be darker than new but shouldn't be really dark or black like tar. Should be light town but still clear ish
Loks like the oe one has about half the rows of the other two so I would guess it has less surface not more.
actually NO, as the surface on each "rib" is 1.42 times bigger. but there is the quality of the paper and much more than surface that cheap chinese ones don't have.
1.42 times larger per rib but almost twice as many less? Not hard to work it out. You also wont get hardly any flow through the tight corners where it is folded very tight compared to the straight part. If this design is so great compared to the straight ribs why are air filters not like this?
Relief! The last petrol car I owned was years ago and kept its oil pretty clean, but I was doing long trips in it quite often.
but why would both bmw, honda, renault, mercedes and so on go for that design instead of straight ribs ??
Most specialists will recommend a 6k oil Change interval anyway. Its a high output engine, it needs more regular care than a run of the mill commuter car
