Dilemma, what to do with my R26?

  1. I suffered what I think was an oil starvation problem at Snetterton last Thursday with the result that the big ends are knocking. I managed to drive the car home.

    That night I had a moment and after a bit of research ordered a new Golf R with DCC & Performance Pack. As soon as it arrives I'm taking it to Revo for their Stage 1 Tune. I'm hiring a car while I wait the 12 weeks for delivery.

    So what to do with the R26?
    • Do I repair the engine / buy a second-hand engine and sell it?
    • Sell it as?
    • Break for parts?
    • Fix it and keep it as a second/additional track car?

    It's a 2008 with 140k on the clock MOT until Dec
    Mods include;
    Larger intercooler - (Chinese one from Ebay)
    Two sets of wheels one with Federal 595's and one with PS4's
    Brand new R26R clutch and slave
    Short Shifter
    BC Coilovers
    Still in my garage - new rear bumper & tailgate with R26R spoiler
    Modded air box
    Re-mapped and new cam belt (not sure these are relevant now)
    The interior is in great condition with no holes in the seats
    No rust on the exterior, but a handful of shopping trolley dinks.

  3. my mate has the Golf R 7.5 with stage 1.
    Its stupid fast,,so exercise caution!

    Certainly a different car to drive than the R26..you can feel a bit detached from the action.
    Eons ahead in interior comfort and refinement though.

    And watch those 19s...my mate just buckled one on a pot hole...so easy to do with those thin spokes.
    £850 to you sir!..he nearly fell over.

  9. top quality lightweight alloys is the problem..light but weak for our shit roads.
     
  10. Another thought is to put it on EBay and list it as spares or repair.

    I did this with a Discovery I had a few years ago that was in perfect condition except for a small amount chassis rust that caused MOT failure.

    I got way more for it than I expected and my phone rang off the hook. I'm not sure if that was because Land Rover people tend to be a little bit more hands-on and brand fanatical?

No you are right, a mate of mine was trying to sell some old but very good condition outboard engines, put them up as fully working and serviced didn't sell one, couple of weeks later put them on as spares or repair and sold all and made way more than the original sale price, sold everything after that as spares or repair.
