Decat and insurance

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by Norvern Rob, Dec 24, 2014.

  1. Afternoon all

so, just had my R26 decatted as the cat fell to bits. Insurance is due anyway so need to ring around, but I'm unsure what to do about the decat, obviously it's an instant fail come MOT time (without a friendly garage) so how do insurance companies view it? Seems a bit of a grey area, is everyone declaring them?

    Cheers

  2. Just say it has a full exhaust system or non standard exhaust.

Majority of companies won't insure you with a decat as it is a mot fail and not road legal.

    Just say full system

  4. Or just say nothing....

  5. Cheers, it has a back box chop anyway so I'll just go with modified exhaust.

  6. Back in my 306 days, I called Brentacre to tell them that I'd fitted a decat. Their response was "ok". I called Greenlight to insure my car, they said that if it can't pass an MOT, they can't cover you.
