250 day night light sensor

  1. When leaving work today, I noticed that the head lights was on and the tomtom dimmed (night mode), even though the stalk was on auto.. I switched it back and forth a few times, but didn't help.. stopped and looked to see if there was water/dirt on the windscreen, but didn't seem to be the case.. I'd say there was enough daylight for the DRL's to be on instead.. Anybody else had this? Is the sensor dead? (suspect it's expensive as hell).

  2. No I don't think so. They do work a little strangely tbh.

For instance, this morning the sun was up and was blindingly low in the sky, plenty light enough to drive without lights but the auto lights were on. But, the other day day it was foggy - the light was uniformally 'white' with very little contrast, and the lights wouldn't come on in auto.

The point I'm trying to make is that the sensor sees light differently to your eyes. It will have a very much lower dynamic range than you do.

  3. let's hope that was the case - the sun was pretty low in the sky (around 18:20'ish o'clock)..

  4. I don't use my auto lights as I find that it's already too dark before they come on, can the switch on point be adjusted? Like it can for the auto wipers?

  5. I wouldn't worry about it, they seem pretty random like Xanda was saying haha. Noticed this as well, few times I've turned them on manually when I thought they should've been on. Although atm I'm just going about with my lights on all the time just now cause one of my DRL's has packed in on one side and it looks naff haha.
