225 Damp Carpet - Clear Skuttle Drains....

Discussion in 'Electrical & Interior - Security, ICE, Wiring Loom' started by gazmidas, Feb 6, 2015.

  1. All,

My passenger side front and rear carpet is quite damp. I have cleared the skuttle and door drains but it still seems to be getting wetter.... any ideas? Just removed the cabin filter which was full of leaves, will replace it tomorrow. Could it be the air con drain? If so how do I get to it?

  2. There is sponge like form under the carpet that soaks up the water. Even after you have cleared the drains, this will hold a quantity of water. If you press down on the carpet, especially in the floor bins, you should hear or feel it.

The problem is drying this means taking the interior apart usually. I managed to do it with several large bags of silica gel over a period of months, drying them out in the microwave every few days. They would come out of the car dripping wet.

The air con does drain out of the bottom of the car, underneath the exhaust heat shield IIRC.

  3. Hmm i have some silica gel bags but they dont seem to be doing much to be honest!

Will have a look for the drain next time its on ramps. Not sure i fancy going to the effort of taking all the carpet out, if i do it sounds like a summer job!

  4. Another tip is to always have the heater on hot and directed to the foot-wells. It may not really do anything but you never know....
