Cutting stainless sheet for induction bracket

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by ChrisC, Jul 8, 2015.

  1. Hi all,

I've got some stainless steel sheet that's 2mm thick,
I wanted to cut it down into a bracket to hold my induction kit in place so I don't ruin another filter

I'm just wondering how others have managed to cut it down into shape?
I have a set of quite heavy duty snips I've used for cutting sheets of aluminium this sort of thickness, how ever they never really leave a perfect finish as such. And wasn't sure how they would be on stainless steel sheets

    Thanks

    Chris

  2. angle grinder and a thin cutting disc..
or plasma cutter but its not a everyday diyers item..just sold mine..

snips will not cut it well or tidy..

  3. As above
Slitting disc...ie a disc 1mm or less thick

  4. +1 for 1mm cutting disk. Get your self a flapper disk at the same time. they clean up the edges & round the corners much neater than a traditional grinding disk.

Stainless can be tricky to drill as well, you'll just blunt/burn the bit if your not careful (even with thin stuff) so if you need any bolt holes etc make sure you have a couple of sharp drill bits.

  5. Thanks for your input guys.
I've got hold of a thin cutting disc so guna try have a bash at it tomorrow
