Curbed wheel - minor sidewall damage. Advice please.

  1. Managed to curb my front alloy whilst parking today, was not happy.

There is some very minor damage on the tyre (brand new today!), right on the very outer lip a very small amount of rubber was ripped. Pic attached.

I find it hard to believe that this would compromise the tyre but just wanted a bit of help just in case.

  2. The small bit of rubber which came off below. Maybe 2cm long about 2mm thick. This part of the tyre is really soft, right on the little lip that sticks out.

  3. I think the lip is just there to protect the rim. I would imagine the tyre is fine. I think that you can get black paint for the rim?

  4. Some gloss black touch up will sort the wheel and the tyres fine.

Pretty sure I got some generic gloss black from halfords when I nicked my wheel.

  5. Yeah I have some hammerite at home which does the job.

Why did I never get anywhere near a curb for 8 years when I had a crappy fiat but as soon as i get a nice car I curb it twice in 7 months.

    FUUUUUUUU

  6. Yeah did a bit of research and it has just ripped a bit off the rim protector, doing its job I guess.

  7. Cheers all

  8. Should be fine had worse than that, good choice of tyre zz5

Shockingly I raced and tested at Silverstone on a Michelin Cup tyre that had far worse rim protector damage than that. I know now that the inside of the tyre didn't show any damage as it was unmounted and given to a mate to hoon about on through the summer.
