Cup2s feedback please

  1. I am considering them to replace the (very successful) Nankangs NS2-RS when I bin them in 2 track days time (after 6 track days and 7k road miles !), having rotated them.

    My questions are :

    What is their longevity like both in term of track and road miles ?

    Do they show much front outer shoulder exacerbated wear like Michelin UHP tyres, what with the dual compound ? (I am only running the stock camber)

    I had a similar choice at the St the start of the year but between Cup 2s and AD08Rs, I'm now almost through my 2nd set of the yokohamas

    Not at all, the Yokos work great in all conditions bar the latest cold and wet but then 365bhp might contribute to that. They come with almost 8mm tread as well which was another big plus for them

  5. Ok cheers will consider them. I remember they only come in 91 load rating, no ? Maybe not a big deal on inherently stiff sidewalls anyway
     
  6. Crap longevity, mainly as they come with so little tread. 5k road miles

    Good grip on track but wasn't blown away - would expect better from dz03s and they wear quickly. Managed about a day and a half

    Awful for tram-lining on motorways

    Not good in proper rain

    Wouldn't buy again. Would go for dz03 for track and keep PS4 on road wheels

    I've got AD08R road tyres and R888R track tyres. My experience is similar to Jamie's, good longevity and great across wide range of conditions. I can feel the AD08R have a bit less grip in dry but don't aquaplane in very wet conditions like the R888R.
     
  8. I've had my cup2s on now for just under a year with 1 ring trip ,spa and 4 trackdays still got loads of life in them,done around 8k . Wet weather grip been ok , when cold can be sketchy but drive to the conditions of the road and I don't have any problems. Very happy with them .

  9. Compared to what? What about their sidewalls? Do they give sharp steering?

  11. Does the 91 load rating of the AD08R affect its compliance to spec for insurance purposes ?

  14. Had conti 6 on but fancied a more track oriented tyre , steering is now much heavier which I prefer with turn in much sharper . On track grip is immense once warmed up but beware very mobile rear end when cold , sidewalls got scrubbed up abit around spa but had pressures to low at the time.Was looking at the same time at ado8r but was not sure about how the load rating , went with cup2s as they were already on factory Meganes.

    Load rating is probably an issue for insurance, however I've done 165+ on GPS with them and never died, plus all the Ring laps and various other driving Ive done this year

  16. Hello Nick,

    I have had a fair bit of experience with Cup2s on personally owned Porsches and Meganes, I've also worked with Michelin as an OEM customer too. From a technical point of view Cup2 are immense and Michelin tune the compound for each OEM. The tyre is homologated worldwide and has a lower rolling resistance compared to the Cup1 and most of its competitors, higher corning force and better wet lap times and wear. This is down to them coming with more tread than the Cup1 did. These are the reasons why the tyre is so popular with OEMs.

    Anyway, to answer your questions:
    1) Longevity on my Meg so far is good. 3-3.5mm tread left on the fronts after 3800 road miles and one trackday. Rears I'd guess 4mm left but I'll measure them tonight.

    2) Shoulder wear at Donington was not an issue running at 2.2 bar hot all round. I expected to need more camber but from this instance it was not the case. I only lightly marked the side wall when the tyre was cold at 1.9bar and I got a bit over zealous warming them up. All in all no shoulder wear concerns at all.

    No doubt a more track orientated tyre would give a faster lap time and they will wear out faster than Nankangs but it achieves 1.5 lat g and perfectly suits my use. I'm going to swap front to back for the next trackday, possibly Silverstone in Feb.

    A note on tyre load ratings, it's not uncommon for tyre manufactures to only produce one specification of tyre and simply change the load rating marking. For example Avon could make a W rated tyre but sell a V marked tyre just to offer 'more choice' to the customer.

  18. I got around 10k from my cup 2's that's using them on the car everyday. Good tyre but expensive and sometimes can behave differently to how you'd expect. I.e. They don't always feel as grippy as they should. Otherwise they're amazing. Hard to describe fully you need to try them out. They offer superb dry grip in good weather. Not too bad in the wet but not amazing just like any performance tyre. Steering feel was good with mine too.
