COOLING!!! Is everything getting hot???

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by richmeg, Jan 26, 2015.

  1. Hey,

Recently had my water pump go (leaking) after only 15 mths fitted . . . obviously could be a faulty part but also got me thinking about cooling (was it overworked).

My radiator is a bit battered where the car has been in a shunt during previous ownership, so I was thinking of an upgrade.

    I know a lot of people inc. myself have opted to save some money buying a Chinese intercooler, has anyone tried a rad;

Also there are a few people on the forum fitting oil coolers, catch tanks etc. Do we need to start thinking more about oil/water cooling?

Any peoples thoughts or info. on monitoring temps etc. Am thinking an new rad / oil cooler before Stage 2 tune.

    Thanks,

    Rich

  2. I have a custom alloy rad on mine. Its currently being re-cored and its great. I don't know what they would sell they for RRP but the company is Bespoke Motorsport Radiators based in Leicester.

  3. I'm pretty sure my alloy one is a chinese one bought it brand new, dirt cheap on a badly advertised ebay ad, and tbh its been spot on!
Although i didnt do any before or after datalogging to see if it was any better, more preventative maintanance as the OEM ones always leak at the plastic metal end tank join

  4. Cheers fellas. I was going to monitor the temps with a scan gauge but discovered the mkII doesn't have sensors for oil temp S-:

Anyone else had problems with their water pump or overheating?

  5. Generally the water-pump is part of the service for the belts at 72k miles or 5 years, whichever is sooner. In my personal experience, if you don't replace it when you change the belts, it will fail very shortly after! Along with the belts, and water pump, I think there are a few other parts you do at the same service. I would always recommend doing it all at once, rather than piecemeal.

That said, I haven't heard of anyone having problems with their water pumps if they have followed the service interval, did they fit a pattern part or was it OEM?

  6. Only overheating issue people have had it fitting a pattern part rad.

  7. Yeah I had it all done at once by my garage . . . well, they invoiced me for it all anyway.

Tried to call them yesterday to inquire why they thought the water pump has failed after only 15 mths, but they haven't called me back yet S-:

It cost £37.19 + VAT I'm not sure if that's any indication whether pattern or OEM?
