Today I noticed that the needle was taking longer than usual to get to the mark where it normally sits when hot. I kept watching it and it fluctuated slowly from normal position down to a lower position and then back up again. Has anyone else had this ? I'm thinking coolant temp sensor (anyone know where this is located ? I take it like the 182's in the side of the block ?) Or perhaps thermostat ? It normally just creeps up to the center point and generally stays there when hot.
Mine did this when the thermostat was knackard, got upto normal temp sitting in traffic or ragging the tits of it, dropping down when cruising.
Down the side of the engine, above the bell housing of the gearbox, you can just about see the thermostat housing below that stainless steel boost pipe, and the coolant sensor sticking out the side of it.
Yeah, I'm picking up a new thermostat tomorrow morning and gonna fit it after. Any tips for fitting ? Does the rubber deal need to be lubed up ? Am I correct to say that bleeding it should be as simple as undoing the bleed screw by the thermostat and the other one going into the bulk head, let it run until no more bubbles keeping the expansion tank topped up to the level ? Do I need to have the blowers on flat it with AC ? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Well that was a right fiddle.... As usual, the battery tray was a pain to get back in. Thermostat changed now though. Just need to top up the coolant and bleed the system. Job done ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Great that you fixed it, i think i have to do my thermostat also, coolant temp needle is acting funky for some time already and as the winter is coming one day it can be even worse. How much did you pay for the thermostat if its not a secret?!
Okay great. How much coolant did you loose approx.? As i have about a litre of OEM stuff i then know do i need some more or not. Sent from my SM-A300F using Tapatalk
I would say approx a litre. I just topped mine up with water as its having a coolant change at the next service and it's only recently just had one. I lost quite a bit as the bleed screw just behind the thermostat really Jets the coolant out which I wasn't expecting ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Anybody point to there thermostat in the engine bay just so I can locate this tomorrow? Even just a birds eye pic of the engine bay and an arrow roughly. Thanks.
