Coolant System Cap

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by daveparkin, Jan 31, 2014.

  1. Just thought I'd share this as it may help somebody else.

My R26 had a slightly leaky coolant cap (common as they get older), so I wanted to change it. The 225/230 should have a black plastic cap with a yellow printed hand on it, which according to the manuals means its rated at 1.4 bar relief pressure.

It seems, though, that the Renault part numbers for Megane 225s/230s, Clio 1*2s etc all point to the same part, which is white plastic with a brown cap, meaning its 1.2 bar relief according to the manuals - not ideal. I tried a Quinton Hazell pattern part, but the o-ring was too loose and it didn't seal properly.

If you want the right part for your car, I have bought one from Nissan, part number 21430AX300 (its from the Note 1.5dci, with the Renault engine), or you can get a Gates RC223 pattern part online.

    Hope this might help someone,

    Dave
