250 Constant 12v power source

  1. I'm installing a device that I requires constant power from the battery from. Does anyone know how I can find a good power source that can provide at least 3A of power? I am thinking to take a feed straight from the battery but running cable into the cabin seems like a hell if a job and wondering if there is existing power source that is always on that I can use?

  2. I couldn't tell you what fuse but I imagine there's one you could take from the interior fuse box in the glove box. I've tapped a ignition live from there but not a permanent one.

  3. removing the glove box revels the fuse box, only full time fee I found was to the immobilizer system immediately below fuse box. its debatable if its easier to run from battery as taking glove box out is something of a faff in itself.

  4. constant power? that sounds unusual.. are you sure it's not constant voltage or current?

never mind.. just reread, and you're clearly just after something that is constantly on

  5. Does anyone know if the cigarette lighter socket stays on during cranking? The reason I ask is that some cars the power coming from the cigarette socket is effected by the cranking.

  6. Hello,

The only electronics that has constant feed is the Body Module Electronics which waits for a key to pop near a door. Everything else is switch off by Body Module.
Cigarette socket is not turned off during cranking but it sees the voltage of the system which drops below 10V and all electronics find this as being not enough to run and you see the flicker or you see them tuning off and on.

On the other hand, having something that takes 3A and is constant on, is going to drain the battery before you even know it.

    My 2p.

  7. What are you installing?

Most things that need a perminant/constant supply are things like the radio for keeping its memory. Radios often have two live wires, one switched by ignition and one perminant
