250 Common faults due to lack of maintenance - ABS Module & Brakes

Discussion in 'Mechanical - Engine, Gearbox, Exhaust etc' started by sonyboy, Dec 4, 2016.

  1. I had my swivel joint replaced recently and I was told about two common faults on the Megane 250's and thought I'll share them:

    1. Sticking pads - apparently Brembo brakes weren't designed for road use and you are suppose to strip them, clean them using wire brush and re-assemble using copper grease - twice a year. Seems a bit extreme. In two years, the sticking problem has happened twice to me. Anyone know if spraying brake cleaning fluid every so often will prevent this?
    2. ABS module - mud and leaves will block the drain holes near the front wipers causing water to flood behind one of the panels and will eventually leave to the ABS module failing, these are 1,500 GBP to replace. You can prevent this by removing the panel and front wipers and clearing the mud, leaves etc. Can anyone talk through how its done? You can use a cleaning rod like this:

  2. The general monobloc design does mean they are more susceptible to road salt and fod causing things to gum up.

So yeah strip, clean, grease, reassemble isn't a bad idea and easy assuming the pins tap out as they should (often don't).

How often you do this probably depends on mileage covered.

Done mine once in 22k. Gets driven in the west coast of Scotland, 100 miles a day.

Haven't had any sticking pad issues....
