Hi guys.... quick one for you. Have some issues with the Megane, twice when I started it cold yesterday is was idling at 1,500rpm, when you touched the accelerator it was difficult to Rev, felt as if it was choking & back firing. Turned it off and on, it was fine... checked ECU for codes and was nothing, checked coils and they look okay, checked the plugs and all seemed okay, other than cylinder 4 smelt really rich. Filled it up last night, and it was fine when I started it this morning... any ideas what would cause this? I’ve ordered oem plugs & a oem fuel filter to try those as first things to try. My only other thing I can think is the fact it’s got the decat on, and isn’t mapped for it yet? Any help would be massively appreciated, RS tuning said to try the fuel filter & fuel pump...
I had a similar issue. In my case the problem was the throttle body. Cleaned it and everything was fine after that.
Yeah it did if I remember correctly. The problem got worse when outside temperatures were low. The engine even stalled a few times if I tried to rev it a bit after the cold start. The attached pictures are of my throttle body during the cleaning, it's clear to see why it was a bit moody in the morning!
Sounds very similar to the issue I’m having, although it’s idling quite high when it was its ‘issue’ - can you remember what the idle would sit at? How many miles on the car?
Sorry for the late reply. Idle it would also sit a bit higher, but isn't that normal with a cold engine? Automatic choke? My car had around 120.000kms when I cleaned the throttle body.
One to consider aswel is the air inlet temp sensor, mine had a period of cold start idle problems/cutting out. Changed that and it solved it. Pretty cheap from renault aswel.
That’s a new one! I’ve changed plugs, and fuel filter - fingers crossed it hasn’t done it since. It still has a misfire on idle, but I’m putting that down to it needed a map tweak due to decat!
Yeah mate I’ve gapped them to 0.6 now, or gift seems to have stopped cold start issue, but still misfiring on idle which I can’t work out why
Coils seem to be okay. Injectors are what I’m thinking, maybe dirty or blocked or something. Either way it’s at rs tuning on 6th January
Won't be anything to do with a decat, I ran mine for over 12 months with no issues before I got it mapped
But the 275 has a euro 6 ecu - which I’m lead to believe I’d very sensitive to afr etc, I’m sure rs tuning will be able to sort the issue - if it even has one, as some people say the misfire on idle is normal
Wouldnt say misfire is normal, they can tend to run abit lumpy when injectors play up. Then again mine is on 69k and runs smooth a silk, but i tend to run BG 44k stuff through mine every 12 months to clean the fuel system out.
I was thinking of putting an injector cleaner through it like. Where’s best to get some of that from? I’m sure it’s nothing major as the car drives, and boosts fine - no misfire under load either. Only thing I did notice is when I replaced the plugs, they were whitey/brown, so it’s maybe a little lean ♂️
I would either get them ultrasound cleaned or get new ones, and run cleaner through them every 12 months as a preventative measure.
