265 Coilovers - Ride Quality

Discussion in 'Suspension, Brakes, Wheels & Tyres section' started by OiNK, Dec 16, 2015.

  1. Probably been asked plenty of times but, anyone running a mk3 RS on KW coilovers or similar, is there a decrease in the ride quality?

Mine is a 265 cup so it is firm enough, if I opted to go for some KW setup with the view to lowering the car a bit, will it make the ride more firm or crashy on the road?

I'm on B14, stiffer over the stock cup setup but not harsh.

Perfect setup for road and the odd trackday imo

  3. Really undecided, I like it for the aesthetic benefit alone, but really don't want it to be overly stiff or crashy over our shit roads.

  4. +1 on the B14 great bit of kit and the quality is superb.

  5. How do you find the ride quality compared to the stock cup setup though Mike?

  6. H&R monotube or B14 get my vote!

KW has linear springs so will be more crashy on the road

  7. I'd say the ride isn't that much different but there's zero body roll now. I'd 100% recommend them and I'm fussy!

  8. Compared to the std cup setup, my KW clubsports are hard, but body roll is non exsistant. I don`t find them crashy, but i dont use mine for everyday driving. The ride quality is there, it just depends on how shit your roads are.

  9. Imo leave it standard with lowering springs to get the look you want, unless you are going to track it lots I wouldn't bother with coilovers.

Ps - I've got Nitron r1's on mine and its hard as nails even with the dampers set to fully soft

  10. R Martin is now on ASTs

  11. Mines rides like a rolls Royce now compared to the BCs

  12. Told you you would like them mate, so much better on the road compared to standard suspension

  13. Which ones are we talking about here? AST?

Had a quick look and saw they do a few different types. Are these the remote reservior ones?

  14. Yes ASTs 5100 series all the quickest Meganes have them fitted

I have to alter my damping in my V3s by about 3/4 clicks for road driving. That's settled the ride and it's not too far from OEM another 2 clicks down.

  16. Thought most people would go for the next ones up as the 5100 are only rebound adjustable not compression too. But maybe thats all you need to adjust between road and track?

  17. Yep that must be all you need as that's what we all have fitted, set the ride height and leave it alone, soft for road harder for track, no need at all for anymore and like I say I know of no other Meganes with a different kit that are quicker round a track.

  18. Anyone got experience of the ASTs on a mk3 rs?

  19. 265 here on KW V3 you can dial in your own ride quality rolls royce style or slammed stance car  (inbound and rebound separate dials for the front and inbound and rebound on 1 dial for the rear

i think you can adjust it up to 16 clicks 1 (very soft) - (very hard) 16 , i set up mine somewhat in the middle around 8 clicks (standard they come with 6 clicks was a bit to soft for me ) feels a bit bumpy but good response for "lowered" driving and i don't mind a bumpy ride , my other car was on ST suspension and it was hard when fully lowered and on custom short springs :tongueout:

  20. No one?

    Me...)

  22. Care to give me your feedback on the ride quality then lol?

Car is much stiffer then the cup suspension.
0 body roll, turn in is great.
My setup is more track oriented, stiffer springs.
    Not so comfortable for DD.
But I am fine with that.
What else do you want to know?

  24. Basically trying to find out a setup that will have the car sit a bit lower without it being harsh and crashy on the road...

Bilstein B8, Eibach springs is your route...

  26. You mean one or the other I assume lol?

    Both

  28. This is like a guessing game

No, B8 dampers with eibach springs. Quite a common mod on various other cars

  30. So that gives a nice drop but will keep it from being harsh and crashy?

  31. What makes you think coilovers are harsh and crashy? Pretty much everyone that has commented says the coilovers are fine.

So you just need to man up and get your wallet out.

  32. I think he's talking about B8/Eibach combo!

  33. I had a B12 kit on my last car. It was a fantastic upgrade, but that was admittedly only over M-Sport suspension!

  34. B14 is a height adjustable B12 setup really.

I heart my ASTs, they ride so well and the body control is great.

  35. I've just swapped from BC coilovers to AST, the difference is massive, but it should be given the price difference, BC's are fine on track but the AST are a massive improvement on the road, can't believe the difference.

  36. Might be looking to upgrade to ast as the bcs are fine on track but are very crashy on the road.

  37. Have a go in mine Steve on the road and track

  38. I haven't found that yet with the BC's, I run the 7kg/4kg on the road and got the 7kg for the rear for track use but only just bought them for next year!

I find mine much better then the standard r26 stuff on the road as that was awful.

I have set my preload correctly though and corner weighted it which a lot of people don't bother doing, setting the spring preload correctly made a world of difference.

  39. Mine was all set up,corner weighted etc so would hope they would game done preload. Is it easy to do? My set are 7/7kg as don't do a lot of road driving. Maybe need to look at preload settings though.

  40. Yea might take you up on that steve.
