Just a quick one, with coilovers has anyone has issues with arch liners? Mine lasted about 20 mins, when at around 110km/h... ... over a crest my wheel rebound basically hit the arch liners. Obviously wasn't an issue before so yes it's clearly a fact that the cars sitting lower but didn't know if there was any tricks to get them to sit higher. It's like getting onto my drive, the height clearance from bumpers etc is fine no issue, but again the suspension compresses up the curb and the wheel hits the liners. Also regarding the driveshaft issue, how quick is it prone to failure if to low?
Hard to tell how low it is from that, Have you got them set a bit soft? Certainly never seen any of the ones that run low with low offset wheels having any scrubbing issues, even on the Ring which has a lot of large compressions
It's generally going to be used on track, I've had no issues with bumps and put it into a multi-story so clearance on the bumpers is fine. I think it's potentially set up to soft. Think will need to make some adjustments.
Fwiw this is how mine sits, Have around 5mm left to wind down, no rubbing at all. Rear needs to come back up a bit mind you I would say stiffening them up will probably solve it though
I would say the rear of mine is identical to yours, and the front on mine is around 5mm lower. Do you know what bump / rebound settings you have?
I think you're fine without spacers anyway (?) as mine touches the wheel arch slightly when going into a large bump with heavy luggage (4 extra wheels in the back)
I've adjusted my front rebound settings today, default reckons 9 clicks from open but they were set softer than that. I put the rebound onto the hardness settings 16 clicks and wound it back 6 clicks for now so I'm sitting at setting 10 so to speak. Instantly made a difference, I could tell as could feel all the pot holes and bumps in the road, yesterday it was gliding over them thought I was in an E Class Merc. I'll get it up in the air at the weekend, adjust the bump settings on the front a few clicks as well and stick it at least 5mm but probably 10mm higher at the front.
It also doesn't help that the arch liners are fragile anyway. MY passenger side has a chunk out of it from going through water....
Ooooft Must resist. All my clios have been on coilovers, was going to leave the meggy but that above looks awesome
To be honest it wasn't settled or fully set up on that photo I put up, but in reference to yours above which looks spot on the front on mine is AT LEAST 5-10mm lower. Saturday I'll be adjusting it for sure.
What coilovers are you running? For reference, my KWs have 18 turns (iirc) for bump and rebound and they are currently on 6 (from softest). For trackdays I find turning them to 12-14 normally does it.
KW V3's so no top mount camber adjustment. There is 16 clicks in total, although it feels like more when I rotate? anyway I put mine to maximum hardness and then I've gone 7 clicks back. So effectively 9 clicks in. As it is I'm booked in next week at Northampton Motorsport they're going to adjust my height to spec, calculate spring rates etc, set it up for how hard / stiff I want it to be and obviously align it all. Will be corner weighted as well. As feels sharper turning left than it does right. Anyway will give feedback next week to let you know the outcomes, my thoughts will be it'll be light and day difference and handle on rails.
Yeah interested to know the outcome. I'm on V3s as well, not far from Northampton and could do with a fresher set up once my summer wheels go back on.
I'll give my feedback on Thursday, spoke to a chap called Chris there seemed very knowledgeable and we chatted in general on the phone about cars. Always nice to get a good first impression.
Well today took car to Northampton Motorsport, lovely little set up and very clean. They've had Stirling Moss's Ferrari 250 GTO in there which sold for £22,000,000 but today just had a replica on the dyno which sounded ace. Anyway back to suspension, wasn't really to much adjustment to make with regards to the tracking it was fairly close to how it should of been, they made a few adjustments to the dampers on the rears, adjusted the spring cup holders and car was corner weighted. Its now 65/35 front to rear weight and 50/50 cross weighted so car is perfectly balanced to shift from left to right. Took it out for a spin, still felt bit soft on back so we rang up KW's technical department and chatted to a guy who specialised in Renaults and in particular the Megane for some advise and tips, made a few more adjustments and went back out and much better again. Really pleased with it now handles great, certainly much more stiff than before with the settings for bump and rebound but as it's not a daily driver thats fine and I can also dial it down and make it softer if I want to. In the end raised the front 7mm and the back 10mm, obviously doesn't sound much but it's made a world of difference no arch rub now and only the odd arch liner rub if going over a bump at speed. My personal opinion would recommend this outfit for anyone local! however as race season approaches and as I saw today they are very very busy! and had magazines in today doing right ups on carbs and bits I think the wait now for work there is around 1 month.
