R26 Clutch time

  1. So after just a few thousand miles in my (new to me) R26 the clutch is starting to slip.

I've checked SMF and R26.r upgrades but I don't want to risk day to day drivability. I've had a few quotes of £1250ish all in for a full OEM clutch, cylinder, DMF and associated bits...my question is basically is this reasonable?

It sounds expensive to me but I appreciate the majority is labour and a quick forum search brings up posts stating around £1100 for the job. Struggling with a bill this size vs car value...i bought the R26 as a cheap bit of fun inbetween cars! What a fail.

Ktec come in at a very similar price for the updated clutch and SMF but I have major reservations over the chatter, bite point and engine light issues having read every post on this forum about the subject.

    Anyone offer any experience?

  2. I fitted the ttv smf along with the r26r /1.9 diesel clutch kit as per the thread on here in the summer. I commute it daily. The uptake / bite point on the clutch is a bit sharper but it’s certainly not a no no for stop start traffic. It’s no heavier. I have no issues what so ever. I think the fly and clutch came in at about 500 quid for parts and fitted myself on the street in front on the house. It’s not a job I’d recommend for the faint hearted especially doing it yourself but it is doable. I think book time is 8 hrs but could be wrong. I did it over a weekend.

  3. Oh, and no engine light issues or chatter.

  4. Mine started slipping the same week or near enough when I got my R26.

Got the smf and R26r clutch got it fitted at mark blacks I paid a little more total as I sourced the parts myself. But if I remember correctly I think he said he would supply and fit roughly £750.

I use mine daily just feels standard to be honest slightly sharper pedal feel initially but then you are instantly used to it.

Makes a noise like knives rubbing together on start up for 1 sec (not sure why people mention it makes a noise on start up hardly anything for like 1 sec lol)

Picks up slightly quicker on acceleration.
My emissions light comes on and off but I have got decat aswell just waiting to get booked in and that will be sorted.

  5. I managed to get hold of a very lightly used standard clutch, slave and DMF for £150 posted and fitted at my local lads for £400. I would have loved to have gone for the SMF ttv set up but couldn't justify the spends and at the time I thought I was selling up. Shame as I'm keeping it forever now but standard can handle 280/300 so its no biggy!

  6. Ive got an R26.r DMF and 1.9 dci clutch plates in mine as a mild upgrade to a standard set up. I got a deal on the DMF from GSF when they had 40 percent off (normally at weekends/ bank holidays) and the clutch plates from mister auto. I then took it to Mark Black at Midlands renault specialist and he charged about £200 to fit and was done within 2 hours. Below is what i got my parts for last year. These parts were fitted to my PH2 225.

    LuK 624331609 .R clutch and Slave £129.87

LuK 415046210 .R Dual Mass Flywheel £158.73!! Thats well cheap compared to most prices ive seen!! The dealer also states 'Only to be used with part 624331609'(mister auto)

For the DMF euro/gsf list the 225 clutch/DMF as one and the same. We know they are not so shop with caution!

    Hope this helps.

  7. 200 quid to fit is a bargain.

  8. isn't it! I've heard very good things about Mark. So much so id be willing to travel quite some distance to use his services.

  9. I take my car there for any big jobs i cant do myself. Its a 300 mile round trip but well worth it. I found the paperwork and to fit the new clutch, DMF, slave, new fluid and supply and fit 2 hub bolts with grease nipples....£220.
