Claying with a degreaser ?

  1. Hi all,
Thought i'd post here as the forum needs some new messages.

For the purpose of claying and decontamination is there a reason why I can’t use a dilution of Bilt-Hamber Surfex as a clay lube?
Should say off the bat I’m not fussed about using specific clay lube, I don’t see any problem with water and shampoo. The idea being this may help in doing two jobs at once.
Anyone know if degreaser would do something strange to clay?
One thought is that I might have to do a panel at a time then rinse, so as not to allow the degreaser to dry?
Any thoughts or anyone tried and already know it’s a mistake?
    Cheers

  2. U could try it a suppose , just do a small area and check for marring on the paint

Personally I find a proper clay lube helps cause less marring , Dodo juice born slippy is pretty cheap

  3. I can't see it being a problem, as you said though it might react with the clay bar?

Other than that the only other thing I can think of is that the bar might stick to the paint more, so you might not be able to get a smooth action going... pardon the pun.

  4. It is could make the clay break down and stick. Is use water and shampoo, then the degreaser to remove residue.

  5. Thats not a bad shout, cheers.

  6. I reckon the degreaser would melt the claybar. No harm in trying it though. Could kill 2 birds with 1 stone!

  7. Yeah not to worried about the clay unless it reacts and does something to the paint!
