250 CL5+

  1. Had these pads in now for a month. The noise they make is getting a bit tiring... No noise at all when hot but squeal like mad when not (around town etc).

The noise is overshadowed by the performance though, they really are superb! Only running standard discs but the stopping power compared to standard is mega!

Just one query, the squealing is sometimes a 'squeak...squeak...squeak' tune. Is this because of the grooved discs?

  2. Great feedback. As i need some new and more decent pads to the front, i was looking for the CL option (RC6 to be exact). But with that information it feels like i could not live with the brake noise :worried:

  3. If only they didn't make so much noise, I've used them for nearly 2 years (I don't actually track it) and they've lasted ages.

But I'm putting some oem ones back in this week.

  4. They made the noise for the whole 2 years!?

Did you get that repetitive 'squeak....squeak....' grumpytwig?

I'm guessing the 6's are even worse due to a harder compound but couldn't tell you s4bit

  5. More just when breaking partially (which on a daily commute is 90% of braking  ). My car in general has a periodic squeek but it's very quiet and I can only hear it when doing under 5mph in a multi-story for example I guess that might be the brakes.

  6. You should check/refurb your brake calipers, maybe you have some stuck piston there, i have to check my rear ones as there are one side making noises sometimes (without braking and going slow).

  7. Already done, they're just noisy pads. Though like I say they're pretty old now and seem to have got worse with age.

  8. I'm 99% sure my rc5+ only squeeked first thing, as soon as they were hot they never made a noise

My rc5 rears were noisy as fuck took them out!

Rc6 didn't have an issue either

  9. For road use, I don't see how they could add any power, despite the higher friction. It's all front tyre limited isn't it ? ABS is triggered immediately by oe pads in the dry.

  10. I have used RC6 pads paired with standard cup discs for the past few months.

They are amazing on track but for me they are not acceptable noise wise on the road so at the moment I swap them around with standard pads when im not tracking it for long periods of time.

With the RC6s I find that any time you are coming to a slow stop they squeal really badly. I've genuinely avoided travelling through towns in the past because of the attention they draw. In comparison to the OP i hear a constant high pitched squeak though.. not a juddering.

  11. The noise is terrible!

Haha yep finding myself keeping my head down when coming to a halt as the brakes sound kaput...like metal on metal!

It's been a month living with it now so will see how long I last.

@nickfrog...the initial bite is on a completely different level compared to that of the standard pads. I've also done some pretty heavy braking (90%) and not once have i felt the abs kick-in. The pedal is solid. Can't praise them enough in comparison to standard pads. It's just the bloody noise!!!

  12. Besides the noise, do these rattle around in the callipers or are they ok? Used to run them on an another car. They never squeaked for me but did rattle .

  13. Reverse...braking...fowrard ...braking they clunk as they move around in the calipers

Once staying in forward motion there's nothing

  14. Yeah that's sounds just like I had before on my old car. Not the biggest deal breaker but that along with the squealing is putting me off these pads .

  15. Ive heard that Endless brake pads are doing all of this (read superb braking), and all of that without squealing noise. Too sad that the price is like a little fortune :worried:

  16. I run rc5+ on my r26 for trips to the ring (I go 6-7 times a year). Outside of those trips I swap back to stock pads as the noise of the rc5+'s isn't acceptable. And brake dust is worse to boot. The noise I have on these is more grinding than squealing. In fact I don't think they've ever squealed.
However, as said above performance when matched with decent fluid (motul 660 is my choice) is staggering.

I've also swapped to solid front discs as killed two sets of drilled fronts through cracking.

The rc6's I run in wilwoods on my track only Clio and these too are amazing. But squeal everywhere when not up to temp. Certainly not a pad is consider for a daily driver.

  17. thinking about doing the exact same thing as you Ross. I go to the ring 2-3 time a year but have had massive fading with the standard Brembo pads!

  18. Ring 2-3 times a year ? PFC Z-rated. No swapping pads. They will take a few Ring laps and not squeal.

  19. I need to swap wheels anyway so changing the pads is only a 5 min job

  20. As long as you don't have any seized pins! Last time I did mine I bent a pin getting it out.

  21. Never had any problems with them. Be sure to lube them before fitting

  22. I just make sure the pins are spotless when refitting. Quick wire brush and some emery paper  mind you - I swap them every month or so back and forth so don't really get a chance to seize. I'd hate to have them seize wow :worried:
I'm still on standard hoses but might swap them on next fluid change.

  23. Or buy mr Pink pins instead.

  24. My RC5+ squeal like hell but I find it amusing. Its almost like when they aren't used properly for a while, the build up causes more noise. After a heavy session they become quieter.

  25. They are very good imo, don't particularly bite hard but I never had them fade and they worked the same cold as hot and road tyres probably limited them quite a lot.

BUT, I'm so glad I got OEM ones fitted again after 2 years of them. No squeal, no squeaking, no bang...clack and you go from reverse to forward etc. etc. Been driving a few days on OEM pads and it's so nice with the window down not to hear it

  26. I agree OE pads are fine for road use. I don't see the point of "upgrading" as they will be road tyre / road temperature limited. Unless you track the car of course.

  27. Agreed, standard pads are fine for spirited driving, had them cooking pretty quick on the ring though
