Price of them has well gone up tbh. No idea why because they're shite in comparison to what you can have for the same or less money. Black circles was cheapest last time I had a scan.
£106 each at black circle, my mat swore by them also 8mm on them, he rated them as good as any other track day tyre, I'm just thinking of a tyre that will last a good while that can be used all year round, have you tried them mike
I thought they were good, didn't rate them in the wet at all though (which is expected from a tyre of that type) then going to the nankangs I think there is no difference whatsoever, also not great in the wet but that's the trade off for dry grip. Id buy the Nankang again before forking out extra for the yoko but that's just me.
I rate them highly, got them on my R26 and 172. They take lots of abuse on track, good in the wet and seem to wear well which is a bonus. Good option for a daily driver that does the occasional trackday imo.
I'm ordering a set for my 172 as well, the 888s are full slicks now, think it's only £248 for all 4 for the Clio mate, I'll get a set ordered for the Megane as well
Thanks guys, will be interested to see how you get on with them Steve. I fancy some on my R26 when the PS2s wear down and don't fancy running multiple sets of wheels and tyres for the track.
The set on my 172 have plenty of tread left after 8000 miles including 9 laps of the Ring and trackday at Blyton Park.
They are going to become rare now soon.. As they don't conform to the new EU sound rating so will be only available from importers or people who stockpiled some.. was told this by tyre guy I use as he said he won't be able to get them soon.. but used to get them £100 each in 225/40r18 for megane and £70 in 205/50r15 for mk2 golf..
Hi Steve, Last visit to the Ring last month I happened to get introduced to the Technical Director of TOYO who informs me that there is a new version of the Proxes R888 out NOW in Germany under evaluation but not yet available in the 235 size that I wanted (I ended up with a new set of 595's which did not please him!!). From early next year they will have the full range available and according to him the new tyre is a lot quieter (good), has better wear characteristics and multi-build pattern a bit like the Michelin Cup 2 I think and will not kill you in the wet......maybe hold onto the cash until the New Year?
