250 Car suddenly feels like the rear is steering

  1. So I was driving through a long curve at something like 80 km/h and suddenly the car feels like it has steering on the rear axle, aiding in steering in the direction I was going.. the road was dry, and it didn't feel at all like tyre slip, but exactly as a vehicle with turning rear wheels.. out of the corner, I did some side to side maneuvers on straight road at much lower speed, and it still was the same sensation.. We stepped out and checked all wheels - no obvious issues to be seen/felt..

any ideas of what could be wrong?

  2. Broken damper? Uneven tyre pressures? Lose wheel nuts?

  3. was out driving today to try figure out what is going on... only on fast cornering is there this erie sensation.. feels a bit like very underinflated rear tyres, where the car would roll sideways, except all 4 have 2,5 bars in them.. is there any sort of anti-roll bar on the rear of the car that could've come loose or something?

I should say that all of this could alse be my imagination pulling tricks on me, and the car's supposed to behave like that, but it just doesn't feel right in a car that's supposed to handle very well...

  4. broken shock, feels lost at the back?

  5. hmm.. well, everything seems fine going in a straight line, or cornering at lower speeds (<80kmh).. it appears to be somehow tied to body roll... I tried pushing down the car on both rears, and it just bounced straight back.. It's only done like 28000km total, so would seem strange with a broken shock, but could happen, of course.. I can't spot any obvious leaks from them, but then again, the car was anti-corrosion treated this summer (june), so it's all gunked up and could be hard to spot.. are they oil dampers?

  6. Worn tyres on the rear?

  7. tyres are more or less brand new.. Conti SP's.. just had the car over a pit today, and everything looks as new, except for the undersealant.. no leaking to be seen on the dampers.. I guess the rear beam itself acts as anti-roll bar!?

  8. I'd say you have problems with your dampers.

  9. I had a Laguna back in 1999 that used to do this. Turned out to be a loose nut that holds the bearing in place or something. Memory a bit vague but I'm sure that's what the mechanic said. Car was fine after he fixed it.
