R26 Cambelt and service parts

  1. Hi guys
Sorry im new to this forum (which seems great) and im sure this has been covered before.

I have had the car a week it's a 2008 with 61000 on the clock and has just come up service due.
I don't know when the cambelt was last done (you know what happens when you assume) so for piece of mind I wouldn't mind doing that too.

Is there anywhere specific anyone can recommend for getting service parts?

Are oem parts the best quality for these cars? I have come from years of Japanese turbo cars where almost every part can be replaced with upgraded aftermarket.

And is it just normal service stuff oil, filter, brake fluid, coolant, air filter, plugs etc or is there any strange or specific stuff that needs doing?

    Thanks

    Sam

  2. Generally people use genuine parts....there's not a huge aftermarket for things like service items compared to jap stuff.

It's well worth doing both the timing belt, AND aux belt kits, both complete with tensioners and idler pulleys. Also while it's all apart, replacing the water pump is advisable too.

But to do this yourself you will need the proper locking tools to do it correctly, due to the unique non-key way pulleys on Renaults. It's very easy to get the timing out.

There's a few specialists that will do it right for a good price. Where are you based?

  3. I'm in swindon I have been looking about but all the specialists seem to be a few hours away from me :/ my mate has the locking gear it's just if he fancies doing it or not... so if anyone knows of anywhere fairly local to me?

And I will be having all belts and tensioners etc changed while it's apart it's silly not to

  4. I'd advise somebody with experience with these engines t replace belt & pump, costly if they make a slight mistake (speaking from experience )

  5. Is there a list of specialists anywhere on here?
